Yep, excessive volume not only damages your hearing (I often use ear plugs in theaters) but is also a major distraction. Timely balance is the key to quality sound. When a movie insists on loud music/background noise drowning out the dialogue, then at least provide subtitles.

I liked the movie overall, but I agree 100% with this:

Just horrid going from mumbling under the breath dialogue to speaker shaking FX. Completely unbalanced and took me out of the film multiple times having to adjust the volume.

And yeah, Matt Damon was out of place. Just came off as a little bitch.

i really hate cameos/small parts in films with big name actors.

It completely fricks up my suspension of disbelief to the point where I then get pissed at the filmmakers for even thinking it was a good idea

Agreed on all counts. I love sci-fi space movies, but this was a disappointment.
