To me the creepiest part is that it could actually happen.

Exactly, very realistic. The masks and music they used creeped me out also...

Don't say Suspiria, thought overrated.

Suspiria is a fine example of good Italian horror. You HAVE to watch it with good headphones and weed because it relies so heavily on sound and visuals. It's not "scary" but it's awesome.

Other examples:

Kill, Baby...Kill!! - Mario Bava
Zombi - Lucio Fulci
Bay of Blood - Mario Bava

It's more artsy than American horror movies but I'm a fan

I saw The Strangers in theaters when I used to live in the woods outside Ruston.I stayed up all night long with all the lights on with my glock.

There was this one movie back in the day that scared me when I was a kid. It was about some type of essence of the devil underneath a church. A team of scientist was there to study it or something. The main character keep on having dreams of a recording of the future. By recording I mean it was how you would record on tape but he kept dreaming about it.

I remember mirrors playing a big part in that movie something about it being a gateway to hell or something but it was never proven.

At the end, there was a bed room scene where the guy kind of wakes up and thought everything was ok then something jumps on the bed with him. What it was was never shown as he bolted awake this time for real.

At the end he gets up goes into the bathroom and wash his face. Then it was as if a thought suddenly occurred to him and he stared at the mirror. He then slowly reaches out and tentatively try to touch the mirror.

Unfortunately I couldn't stand it as a kid, the suspense and so I shut it off. I wish I could remember the movie titles but I have watch countless horror film and none of it seem even remotely similar.

Your description is sort of all over the place but I think you are referring to:

John Carpenter's Prince of Darkness
