It's both.
Also, I'm sooooo sick of the Ted and Robin thing.

Did you not watch the last episode?
she said to kumar "It's not just that I can't have kids, I don't want them"

I think that she is full of shite. She seemed pretty upset when she found out that she couldn't have kids, and now all of a sudden she tells Kumar that she doesn't want them at all? Sounds fishy to me and we will find out SOON why she told him that.
It looks to me like the writers are trying so hard for us to stop sniffing down the Ted & Robin trail, that they are setting us up for some type of huge surprise that they don't want the viewers to see coming.

Then everything we have seen so far is a lie, and Ted is delusional. If you are looking for some kind of HUGE Robin is the mother twist, I don't think that will happen.
Anyone that has watched more than one season can tell you ROBIN IS NOT THE MOTHER!!
I did like it last time they teased the idea of them getting back together on the sofa, and then something stupid happened like his hat fell off and she laughed at Ted's blonde hair. But even then I was about to get pissed, like "NOT AGAIN!"
I don't get how they go from both Barney and Robin cheating on their significant others to be with each other. And now that they are both single, she runs back to Ted? Did I miss something?

Let me clarify. I don't think Robin is the mother I just think that they will end up back together and ultimately will separate again.

Oh.. OK. Then we are in agreement.
Still isn't already weird enough to tell your kids how Aunt Robin just bounced back and forth between guys.

From the show that had Ted tell his kids about how him and his friends got laid using "the naked man" i think we can look past that.

i did. but in reply to what he was talking about, the more appropriate part was the execution. she can't have kids, therefore she can't be the mother.
and she doesn't want them...allegedly

Robin is absolutely not goign to be the mother. Ted saying I love you at the end wont lead to much of a story imho. Next episode that story line will end I think.
We already know he meets the mother at someones wedding. We also know that the mother was roommates with that girl he dated for a little while and that the mother was in his class when he started trying to teach in the wrong classroom.

my biggest question is whether it's going to be someone completely out of the blue or if it's going to be someone we've already met.

I haven't watched every season. So let me ask you this. Has Teds kids every actually met Robin? Or do they just know of "aunt robin" from Teds stories?

I think it's going to be out of the blue.
We did see her foot already though

Yes. They had crayon drawings of them together and shite. Pretty sure that implies they know her

Gotcha. I'm still fairly new to the show so I'm missing a lot of details.

She hasn't run back to Ted, she just talked to Ted, because in the episode Robin found out she couldn't have kids, Ted said something to the effect of "I'll always be there for you" IIRC, plus Barney doesn't know that Robin's single yet, which could change his feelings towards Quinn/Whatever her stripper name was, although I feel that Stripper chick is perfect for Barney.

The Barney/Robin thing seems so forced and not right to me
Barney needs a chick that will call him out on his shite, not a chick version of him.
I would also argue that there is evidence that Barney wants kids as bad, if not worse than Ted does thus the Robin no kids thing could be a deal breaker

Barney could also look at Robin not being able to have kids and think "i can always have unprotected sex with her and never have another pregnancy scare again"

Barney wants kids. He is as big a family guy/ romantic as Ted is, except he is way less whiney and bitchy about it
