Never read the book. I also never read its prequel, The Shining, have seen Kubrick's version of The Shining countless times (learn or notice something new every time), and I really enjoyed the "King approved" mini-series.

I wasn't sure what to expect from this movie. Would it align more closely to the mini-series or Kubrick? Well, I think it had to marry itself to Kubrick because more fans have seen AND like that version. It did, and the movie was not only passable, it was very good.

Ewan McGregor does a good turn as Dan (Danny) Torrance. As an old fart, I love nostalgia, so seeing all of our favorite characters (Tub lady, Dick Halloran, The Twins, etc.) along with our favorite haunts was pretty cool.

The idea of "the boxes" and their usage was pretty cool, although it was pretty obvious how they would be used in the latter part of the movie.

The Knot and "steam" were a bit ham handed, but it did not detract too much from the film, which flowed pretty well and did not seem to bog down much.
Creepiest scene: "They haven't found us yet."

I literally got major goosebumps during the last scene of the move.

I give this movie 7.9 out of 10 Frozen Randys.

I am also not a book reader. Saw the movie about a month ago and absolutely loved it. Mike Flanigan is an amazing horror director.

This movie proved Mike Flanagan is one of the best directors working right now. He seamlessly blended the events in King’s novel The Shining and the events in Kubrick’s The Shining. Absolutely brilliant filmmaking.

Just finished the director’s cut and enjoyed it. Three hours long but I had nothing else to do.

I'm looking forward to finally seeing it. Do u know what HBO movie is next week by any chance

I'm not some huge fan of the shining tho. It was good Jack was great but it was so long

Ok this long too I'll just split it up hour half at a time in 2 days. Unless its really got me hooked
