people suck because they have this negative shite built up in them. The Purge gives all the normal citizens an opportunity to release all that shite, and it causes them to be better citizens the rest of the year.

All it would do is cause more problems with people wanting revenge on people who wronged them during the purge.

I just saw it and the movie was great. It is an original idea and really makes you think. Totally a pro gun movie, cause I want to go buy like a dozen right now, but that was somewhat expected..

Spoilers (kind of)..

While it's not really that plausible, it did explain the purpose. If all the poor, sick, old people were killed once a year, there wouldn't be any unemployment, less drains on the economy. Plus crime wouldn't be that big of a problem, cause most would wait for the purge. Just a cool concept for a movie...

So is having a security system like the one Ethan Hawke is show to have the norm in that society or is he the "rich elite" exception?

He is very wealthy, but he even says in the movie it doesn't make you totally safe. It makes you more difficult to get to and most people will just pass you by (too much of a pain to get around). But lots of people went hunting though or just went out in groups. It's terrifying to think about..

Yeah it would be interesting. Especially if you know everyone is armed would you really want to frick with anyone? I would probably just head to the woods or leave the country.

If crime is legal, why are the criminals in masks?

Cause they are sadistic freaks that are trying to scare people. Not the smartest way to go though practically. It restricts peripheral vision, breathing, etc.. Seems you'd be better off without..

I've heard this a lot in regards to this movie. Just because the crime is legal, it doesn't mean it isn't frowned upon.

Going to see this tonight.

And how the hell would the economy not collapse?

Everyone would kill their boss and coworkers/customers they don't like. Or their competitors.

Stupid

The concept is a solid one

Turning it into a solid film though seems to have not happened

Everything I've read is it basically turns into the strangers

I'll pass. Why can't Hollywood figure shite like this out? Great premise, lets turn it into what we've done 29008 times already

frickers

Not all crime is murder. I don't want to kill my boss. The purge isn't something they put in yesterday and the country is now perfect. The trailer makes it seem as if the purge has changed people, assuming through time, to not be worthless criminals all year long.

It's a movie, most don't make sense in the real world.
