Great story in a forgettable or bad film.

What are some films that have a story you thought deserved better but you knew the film was bad or forgettable.
Jet Li's The One falls in this category for me. I don't think the movie is terrible or unwatchable, but the premise is deserving of something much better than this forgettable 2001 movie.

Venom could of been so much better.

There’s a lot of B movies out there with damned good/original plots, but extremely shitty execution.
And a lot with nearly great plots but screwed it all up with an overly wacky ending.
Lots of these on Netflix.

For a Scorsese flick starring Leo DiCaprio, Shutter Island has always felt a bit forgettable to me.

Winter's Tale. Not an easy one to pull of but it wasted a great story and cast on a mediocre film.

Unbroken. One of the best books I've ever read made into a shite movie. It would make a great miniseries.

Starship Troopers.
It is an insult to Heinlein.

Hard to beat The Sum of All Fears. One of Clancy’s best stories, but butchered in the film.

My only regret is that I have but one upvote for your answer, sir. Starship Troopers was arse raped by Verhoeven. What a hack that a-hole has proven to be as a director.
