i liked the czech director's trilogy; bleu, blanc, rouge.
however when i rented it recently it wasn't nearly as enjoyable the second time around.

Also check out Crimson Rivers. A murder mystery that is much more complex in the native French rather than the dubbed dialogue, but still a good movie.
