Actually I've never seen it. I just remember it being a popular movie that year.

It was a hit because it was John Grissom, but it was a bad book and a bad movie, not a stupid as the Pelican Brief, but still pretty bad, especially comapred to other moives from 94

Gotcha.

Also looking at the 90's, '92 was a damn good year as well:

Aladdin
Basic Instinct
Bram Stoker's Dracula
A Few Good Men
The Last of the Mohicans
A League of Their Own
My Cousin Vinny
Radio Flyer
Reservoir Dogs
Scent of a Woman
School Ties
Unforgiven
White Men Can't Jump

loved those at the time - and around 3 seconds of Basic Instinct

Of course I weigh art against previously experienced art. It would be silly not to. And I'm saying that 1994 has tons of great movies. I mean, the list of movies that came out that year is crazy good. Forrest Gump's weaknesses were more readily apparent in a year in which I was constantly exposed to really good movies. It's not even a conscious comparison, but when you see a decent movie after watch a bunch of crappy movies, it seems better than it i because you are so happy it's not another piece of crap.

movies that are pretty different, i can't compare the 2 b/c that wouldn't do the proper justice to the one you rated lower. if it's something you just know is a piece of crap, then yeah, you're pissed about having watched that. but you have to compare like-movies to give one an accurate review. I can't go in there and say "well forrest gump isn't special b/c shawshank was amazing" regardless of how recently I saw them b/c they are too different of movies. Sure human nature will force you to compare the 2, but you have to try and be as objective as possible when they are different type movies. Just don't feel I would be giving forrest gump its due trying to compare it to shawshank. wouldn't work for me.

1994 gets my vote as the greatest movie year ever. Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, Shawshank, Clerks, The Professional, Bullets over Broadway, Forrest Gump, The Lion King, Four Weddings and a Funneral, Reality Bites, The Paper (very under rated imho), Heavely Creatures, The Hudsucker Porxy even the popcorn stuff, like Speed, True Lies, and comedies like Dumber and Dumber. Loaded year.

incredible stuff.

this is a top 5 movie for me. its freakin epic. its funny, drama, a war story, and there is retard. the only bad part is we never saw Jenny's good parts, like her in-betweens.
