Was probably my favorite film until Blade Runner. Still a top 5 overall.

Definitely my favorite war film.

This has some of my favorite "pre-war" scenes.

"Now look here, Alvin. You know, I know and so do the Sheriff. You're from over here in Tennessee. And I can't sell you no liquor less you gets over yonder in Kentucky." - so they cross the state line inside the bar to the Kentucky side.

And when his younger brother calmly goes to fetch him home with a rifle.

Great, great film (Howard Hawks-directed). They don't make them like they used to.

I say yes. It's easily the most engaging/satisfying war-time epic ever filmed, imo.

Plus, it's filmed chronologically like a 10-hour movie, if you binge it like I did.

Thin Red Line

I don't know... definitely some great individual performances but as a whole it just tries to hard as an anti war film.

Each time I have watched Thin Red Line I like it less and less.

My war Favs...

We Were Soldiers- fav vietnam
All Quiet on Western Front- fav WWI
Band of Brothers- Fav WWII Europe
Bridge over River Kwai- Fav WWII Pacific

Stalag 17 should get a mention though...

Well if BoB counts then I'm adding Generation Kill to my favorites list.
