I said that a couple weeks ago and some people were all upset. They liked Lester. I think he's a POS since the beginning. Can't wait to see him suffer.
He kind of reminds of Walter White a little bit. A character that you cheer for, but then you slowly watch his tragic down fall.
I don't know why he couldn't leave well enough alone while in Vegas.

I liked Walter White from beginning to end.
Jessie was the one who I hated and wanted to die.
As for Lester, I think I felt sorry for him until recently, but now, I am ready for his demise- he's earned a painful one.

Finally caught back up on Fargo last night. This show is so freaking good. My gf bugged me for months to watch True Detective and scoffed at Fargo...I watched TD on a flight back from Italy and must say, without a doubt in my mind, Fargo >>> TD.
Now, back to the show, not sure if I'm missing something obvious here, but how does the Stavros Milos storyline fit into the big picture of Fargo? Was it just a filler story to give more insight to Malvo's character/personality/job?

Do y'all really think they are going the supernatural route and make Malvo the devil.
if so, i hope it's just metaphorically speaking....because if there's a reveal that he really IS the devil, i as a viewer am gonna feel punked for investing my time in this show.
besides, if he was the devil, he probably wouldn't have had to go undercover for a year as a dentist...i'd figure he'd have more mojo for such matters, lol...

If they catch Malvo and he turns out to be the devil, I mean if he's Satan himself, that might live up to our expectations, but he's not the devil. He's just a man.

I think they want the viewer to see him in that light, but I don't think he physically embodies the devil per the script.
Thornton and Freeman talk briefly about it in this Q&A they did recently: LINK

quote:
Thornton: Malvo gets out of any situation instantly because he has supreme confidence. It's like the guy who walks on hot coals. If you think it may burn you, it will burn you. But Malvo doesn't think. He just walks across the coals. Whereas Lester, to get out of a mess, he creates another mess. When he's kidnapped by Wrench and Numbers and has to get away, he gets himself arrested — even though he's under suspicion for murder. Better to be in jail than murdered.
Freeman: Whereas Malvo, he does things none of us would ever dream of doing. My missus, Amanda, asked me the other night, "Is he meant to be the devil?" Because he seems untouchable, and he's got that twinkle in his eye. It's like he's been beamed down from somewhere. I remember you telling me you never worked on a back story for him, which is absolutely right. We just want to see this fearless creature living in the moment.
Thornton: Yeah, even through all the evil or whatever and high jinks, Malvo says some things we think every day. Like when the motel lady tells him it's $10 for pets. And I ask, "What about a fish?"
Freeman: It'd be boring just to play evil. There's something very likable about Malvo, which makes him 10 times more dangerous. You want to follow him, which is there in that first scene between our characters. That was the moment when I read the script that I made my mind up that I wanted to do it.

He is the key player next week. Lou is the only match for Malvo. He saw right through his superficial charm and Malvo bailed.
Loved the diner scene, but Molly is the person who has been matched with Malvo throughout this season. It is pretty incredible that the only time they have ever come face tot ace is on the snow right before she got shot.
I agree Thornton has been great, but Alison Tolman has been a match for him with her performance. Their performances have made everything with those characters work. And as foils, have made the other character work better as well.
***SPOILERS BELOW (if not caught up through ep. 9)***
This show has been great. I loved the 'one year later' time jump last week. There are so many small moments. Bob Odenkirk with the kid from Ghana that humanized him and foreshadowed that Lester would also have a chance encounter with Malvo. This week's scene of BBT's cruelty where he goes to Lester's old house and as he is walking off decides to tell the dad and his kids that there were murders in the house and Lester always talked about hearing ghosts. There is this restrained glee in those scenes (kid pissing in the gas tank in the pilot another example) that only BBT can pull off.

I just watched the whole season yesterday.
I'm sure this was covered here but the thread is pretty large.
What's the theory on why Malvo taps his calls, keeps the recordings and listens to them repeatedly?
ETA:
Nevermind. Only had to go back 2 pages. I agree with this.

Most likely for leverage. Maybe for fapping.

I was hoping for the whole gif that includes him putting it around his neck.

The wanted to tie in the scene where Carl Showalter (Buscemi's) character from the 1996 movie - burying the ransom money under the red shovel in the snow - with the TV series.
A young Milos with then wife and son is stranded out of gas in the snow - he prays to God - and then sees the red shovel in the distance, finds the money - and evidenly, starts his grocery store chain with the money.
Later when he gets tangled up with Malvo in ANOTHER ransom plot (sweet irony), he prays to God again, and sees fish flying (from an apparent storm) and locusts descending (from Malvo's plot).
Lots of symbolism and veiled analogies with the movie.

Just found this thread, but agree that this is the best show I've followed in quite some time.
Am I a sick bastard that I usually laugh out loud once or twice an episode with the plot twists?

I do too. It's a very funny show, in a dark way.

I cracked up when Malvo told those kids Lester was hearing footsteps on the basement stairs and noises in the house. It was so fricked up it was funny.
