From what I've heard, the actual settings and what not are obviously staged, but the dialogue between them is real. That sounds pretty plausible to me. I don't see any writers coming up with half the shite these guys say.

I just like the back and forth between the guys. Even though it's staged they're still funny. Like hanging at the camp with your buddies acting a fool

According to all the biographies I've seen/read about him, he served in Vietnam and retired from the army in 1993.

The show is scripted based on real life experiences. All reality shows are to varying degrees.

Their official Facebook or Twitter, or maybe Willie's wife's twitter was recently posting a bunch of old pics of the brothers, Phil and Si. One of them was Si in his military uniform. I'm trying to track it down now.

They showed a picture of him in his Army uniform when he was a Staff Sergeant. He probably rented that uniform and took the picture knowing he would be on reality TV 40 years later.
