So which is it? Are they just like everyone else or are they ultra sensitive effeminate cry babies?

Well, both. They are ultra sensitive, just like the people who freak out on this board when they see someone complain about something they don't agree with.

quote:

Gays claim they are no different from anyone else. Then they simultaneously claim that because scar was slightly effeminate he must be gay and that's an insult.

This isn't the point. No one is mad that scar might be gay. People got mad that he's not Harry, but that they used stereotypically gay traits to make him seem evil.

Also, the article in OP is about wanting to bring gay-coding back, so which thing are you actually complaining about? No one is outraged in this scenario.

Perpetual victim communities get to dictate how you have to view certain things and then attack you and claim persecution based o the unfounded views they made up and assigned themsleves

I never got the impression that Ursula was gay. Pat Carroll stated in an interview that she viewed the character as a combination of a used car salesman and an over the top Shakespearean actor.

The saddest thing about this entire Ursula uproar is that they've dismissed Pat Carroll's performance, which alone should make her a Disney Legend. She carried that fricking movie. Straight, Catholic, Republican Pat Carroll was the best thing in Disney's Silver Age of Animation.

The remake sounds like a train wreck in the making. A black Ariel and Melissa McCarthy as Ursula? I’ll take a hard pass. You know that MM will portray Ursula in the most obnoxious way possible.

The problem arises because groups continually try to take specific aspects of a character and make it their own.

Not being macho and being a bit effeminate now means gay, because it was completely overtaken by the gay community.

Being like Ursula was not a gay/drag queen thing. They just took it and claimed it because some drag queens mimicked it.

That's the sad thing. They are ruining everything by trying to take on everything theatrical as part of their culture and its hilarious. Shakespearean acting and theater in general are not property of the gay community. This is getting ridiculous.

You are filtering an idea in film criticism that is decades old through a Twitter-them-vs-me understanding of the current cultural climate.

Calling bullshite on you because I've seen those and she didn't fall down while eating and calling herself fat.

I meant those as two different things.

She absolutely prop falls in all of those movies.

And she makes self depreciating fat jokes in atleast two of them.

That's her shtick. It's what she does.

Da queer calling anything eccentric “gay” like they’re boomer rednecks is a great bit

I sort of think MM will do a good job as Ursula. She’ll have the look at least. I’m still not sold on a non-redhead Ariel, but this movie isn’t really aimed at the middle aged male demographic anyway.

Didn’t one of the writers come out and say Ursula’s appearance was based off of a famous drag queen?

An interesting article about how remaking Jafar and Scar less broad and less effeminate diluted the characters

Not once did I perceive either of these characters as effeminate or gay.
