Considering WB owns DC, yeah they are. I'm not sure if it is a similar agreement that Marvel/Disney have (where the two are separate but Disney oversees certain aspects of the company like marketing and distribution).

It's not like WB is completely incompetent. I'm now hearing some positive news as far as reactions for Suicide Squad coming in, so I think some of us are jumping the gun. They made a mistake bringing in Snyder, but I think there is plenty of time to get back on track. They just had a very successful Batman trilogy and they've done well with other properties like Harry Potter. Let's just give it some time.

Small update on Suicide Squad reactions. Just to let people know, there is a big difference in the way SS is being handled with the media and how BvS was handled. Although the embargo is late as it was with BvS, media screenings were done much sooner (as an example, Faraci has already seen it). And it wasn't a preselected audience like BvS, so that's a positive. Responses are starting to trickle in and their mostly positive. The going negative stuff I've seen is the Joker was nothing special, the dialogue was a little cheesy at times, and the pacing (editing) was a little off (thanks WB). But most people are saying that the movie is really good to great despite these things. Unlike BvS, there is real heart in the movie and it's a lot of fun. Time will tell, though, and we'll know more on Tuesday when the embargo drops. Again, the most important thing here is that it is an overall "good" movie and that the Joker works. Hopefully the later will be true for most, but the former is looking good right now.

ETA: Apparently a lot of the Joker stuff was cut out because it was too vulgar even for him. Like one scene that was cut he actually pees on Harley. Looks like they went a little safer with him. That might explain his lack of stand out moments people are talking about in the final cut.

Disappointing.

I'm seeing positives as well, but it's just regular folks. I'm still expecting mixed reviews from critics.

Yea, they just went safer with it. I think they had an idea for Joker that was just too out there and they decided to pull back. I expect at best a low 70s, at worst low 50s RT score. I think critics are going to like it better than BvS and I expect everyone to say it's a step in the right direction. I don't nor have I ever expected an Oscar worthy movie. And I think fans will dig it.

I'm sure my wife and I will enjoy it. The only concern is I've seen several people mention pacing/editing issues. I get the sense that the studio really interfered with this film.

I wouldn't be surprised if we get an extended cut, similar to BvS.

What gave you that sense? The fact that it's Warner Bros?

With BvS being such a mess, I'm sure they're going with a safe, family friendly movie. Basically a Marvel film. And for me, personally, that really sucks.

Yea, I mean, I'm kind of glad that the peeing scene was cut whatever the case. But, it concerns me that they thought this was a good idea in the first place.

They were in a position where they wanted to constantly push the envelope on everything, now they want to be safe. That's probably not a bad approach overall, but SS was all but finished when they made this decision. I'm interested to see how this will affect the rest of the film. I guess we'll see.

Do we know he was really peeing on her? I remember that rumor getting started while filming but has it actually been confirmed?

Not confirmed. But there are quotes from Snyder and Ayer that say that the Joker was going to be pushing the envelope. Snyder said "I don't think people are going to be ready for this Joker". Now we are hearing that he was underwhelming and some of his scenes where cut. It definitely looked like he was peeing on her and I'm hearing that that scene was cut. I'm just looking at what I have to work with here.

ETA: Whether he was peeing on her or not, I'm curious as to why they would cut Joker scenes when that's what people were most excited about. Unless..........they were worried that he was too risky in some way. It's hard to imagine what could be too risky for Joker. I think peeing on a girl would fit that description.

The Joker pulling an R. Kelly would be the epitome of everything wrong with DC movies.

It looks like Snyder has more free time now that he's been pulled from most of his duties on JL:

Saw this on another board. Just being a crowd pleaser should be enough for WB.

quote:

It's decent. Not bad, but not great. It's good. I'd pay to see it again.

The film is playing it very safe, and I can't help but feel that if Batman v Superman was a success, this film would feel less like it was designed by committee.

It is still a very enjoyable movie and should do well among other critics. I've heard mostly positive buzz and a few negative murmurs. If I'm being honest, the people who didn't like this film were sure they weren't going to like it prior to going in. This film isn't going to blow you away or change you into a DC fan.

Last thoughts. There are some brilliant moments in this film. The acting is fantastic. Pacing is a bit iffy. You can tell they've chopped and screwed with it to make a safe product- a product that will have a "fresh" score so as to not scare people away, but it's a product that won't be discussed as much as Batman v Superman. It will come and it will go. In that sense, it is comparable to many of Marvel's efforts.
I do like it, though. I recommend seeing it. 7/10 for me.

In all honesty, I think that's what DC needs right now. Take some chances down the road when you get some positive vibes under your belt.

Me too. A Directors cut won't change the initial RT scores so bring it on. I want to see this crazy Joker I was hearing about for 2 years.
