Zack Snyder on Superman in BvS:
quote:

Over the last two years he’s basically been Superman as pop culture would know him. He’s been righting wrongs, there have been floods, mines have collapsed, bridges have collapsed, churches have caught on fire. He’s basically been a hero. When we find him, he’s been dealing with the everyday world of being a superhero, but there’s a paradigm shift happening in that the unintended consequences of some of those rescues are starting to come into fruition. He’s starting to see that every action has a reaction. Like, if you’re just taking a cat out of a tree, you can’t touch anything or the arborists will say, ‘He damaged the tree branch when he got the cat down.’ Or, ‘The cat wasn’t neutered, so now there’s thousands of cats.’ There’s no winning anymore for Superman.
That sounds about right. Honestly, that's the way many comic movies have been. X-Men had the mutant issue. Civil War is kind of going down that path with the creation of Ultron. I think it's a great idea, but it's going to piss of boy scout Superman fans. They want him to save the world without any harming a fly. I understand why. That's just the way he's been portrayed on film in the past. I don't think that would work anymore though.

More on his relationship with Batman:
quote:

It’s interesting to see how Batman perceives Superman, because he doesn’t know who Superman is. All he knows is the public face of Superman. And if you have an idea about someone or if you start to doubt someone’s intentions, you can always read in the media, you can always see the face that you want to see, based on how it’s reported. Batman’s seen the destruction of Metropolis. That’s the thing he knows for a fact. So if thousands die, is that okay? What next? Millions? Is everyone okay with that? Because I’m not. That’s Batman’s point of view.
It sounds like Batman is concerned about what Superman is here to do. As are a lot of people in that world. It's not like he can just go up to him and say "Hey, are you a bad guy?" Clark Kent already doesn't trust him as well.

I think these are some interesting ideas, but again this is going to make classic Superman fans mad. Yes, Superman is having to answer for the destruction caused in Man of Steel, but the fact that he was involved in the damage in the first place is unsettling to them. I for one like what they're doing. I'm a Superman fan, but I'm not one who HAS to see his classic incarnation and I understand that in reality, there was nothing Superman could do in that Zod fight. Then again, we all got a first hand look at what was going on and what peoples intentions were. The people in that world including Batman only saw two super powered aliens fighting and the city getting destroyed. Maybe we need Superman to look a little more upset about the lives lost and the destruction. Even though I don't believe it was his fault. Maybe that will settle people a little bit.

So true. How dare you show destruction in a fake superhero film

‘Batman V. Superman’ Hits Tracking Boards: Looks To Rule World With $300M-$340M Opening – Update

quote:

BvS advance tickets went on sale Monday. How are they? Insiders tell Deadline that the dark knight rises first day sales of BvS outstripped that of The Dark Knight Rises. That 2012 threequel went on to drum up $25M in advance ticket sales before its three-day opening of $160.9M. One rival studio B.O. analyst upon hearing the pre-sales intel on BvS indicated that if the film is truly pacing in tandem with Dark Knight Rises, then the Batman-Superman combo could possibly be looking at a $180M-plus stateside debut. How’s that? Turns out that was the original industry opening projection for Dark Knight Rises before the Aurora, CO. midnight theater shooting struck and slowed down business for the Christopher Nolan film during its first FSS. Put an asterisk on that forecast. Dark Knight Rises had the benefit of summer weekday audiences, BvS is hoping to milk as many spring breakers as possible. However, when it comes to record openings at the box office, does it even matter anymore what season you play?

Rev4Media, a New Bedford, Mass. movie analytics company that measures audiences’ real-time responses to in-theater trailers, reported that 78% of those who watched the final BvS trailer (Feb. 11 version) last weekend would definitely buy a ticket to the movie. That’s not too far from the 83% who reported to Rev4Media that they would buy a ticket to Deadpool after they watched that pic’s trailers in theaters. Rev4Media is the same stat co. that saw the writing on the wall for Gods of Egypt: Back when the Alex Proyas film trailered on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Rev4Media noticed months in advance that audiences were turned off by the pic’s first trailer with 50% saying they would never buy tickets to the film.

That seems pretty low to me to be honest. I think it can easily do over 400 mil.

Yep. I thought the same thing. But really, most comic movies have been going that route lately.

Whenever you hear someone talking about making a superhero movie where the heroes are "real people", they never realize that they're fifty years too late.
