Breaking Bad up to Season 5 (spoilers).

I just got done rewatching the entire series. Took me about 2 weeks. Couple of things:
What is the general consensus as to why Gus killed Victor with the box cutters? Now I assumed it was because he took it upon himself to do things Gus didn't ask him too, and Walter wonders aloud the same thing in season 5. Then he says something like "maybe he got too close to the sun" or something like that. I'm still not quite sure what his reasons were.
The other thing is that 2 minute kill sequence is one of the most cold blooded things I've seen on TV. I wasn't even bothered much at all by it the first time because I was just geeking out on the editing and the way they shot it. This time I knew it was coming and I focused more on how these guys were getting taken out. Gave me the chills.

Got himself spotted at Gale's murder scene.
But the method of his killing was definitely to intimidate Walt & Jesse, and maybe even Mike.

It's been a while since I watched that season, but IIRC it was to show Walter that anyone is replaceable/dispensable.

And provided a perfect opportunity to show Walt that he doesn't frick around and that no one should be comfortable.

That makes sense, except did Gus know that? Victor told Mike he was spotted after he asked, but didn't Gus come in afterwards?

Mike told Gus when he called them

I think Gus just wanted to send a message.
it wasn't about Victor knowing how to cook, it's about Gus being the only supplier of the blue shite, so he kills him to tell Walt "you will cook for me and I will kill you when I don't need you anymore"

Well I guess there is no general consensus, huh?
It definitely was a power move. Gus started to slowly lose control of his business and it was a way of gaining back control, except Walt can't leave well enough alone.

that's what I think too. plus I think he was kind of losing it a little bit. he had the cartel and DEA after him, plus Walt keeps throwing a wrench in things, so he kinda went crazy a bit
