Ok didn't see anyone mention this, but do you think the Birthday Breakfast scene with Walt was forshadowing his death? The fact that his 1 in the 51, was only half the regular size? So he won't make 52???

The opening of season 5, episode 1 was a flash forward to his 52nd B-day in a small obscure diner.

First scene of the first episode of the season is him sitting in the diner on his 52nd birthday.

They have just now started writing the last 8 episodes, so just where do you think that flash-forward scene will occur?
Are they writing around it, or is it at the end of the first 8 this year? I'm guessing it's at or near the end of the entire series next year and they will write around it, already having the main idea for the ending in mind.
Actually hope I'm wrong, though, and it gets real much sooner.

Walt and Jesse have eaten there before. One time I remember specifically is right after Gus slits his enforcer's throat in the lab(hector?). That was S4E1.

Did anyone notice the train sound in the opening when the kid was picking up the tarantula?
It's there. I remember thinking that kid is out in the middle of nowhere, then I heard the train and thought he might not be that far out.

After thinking about it, I think it would be really cool if this half of the season ends with this being the closing scene going into the last 8 episodes next year.

It won't because there are only 3 episodes left in this half of the season, and he just turned 51. The entire 4 seasons took place over a year, so they'd have to deviate away from the kind of pacing they've been setting thus far.

You're probably right, so that means they already have the ending, or are pretty sure about what they're going to do, but are going to write into it, since they've just begun writing the last 8 episodes this month - if that is actually correct, which would really be smart to check out all the reaction to what is transpiring now to make it even better.

I hope so. Walt buys an M60 so I'd imagine they have some idea on how they want to end it and how they want to get there.

Ha. That was 5 weeks ago, I'm just lucky enough to even remember the 52-shaped bacon.

I haven't caught up in the thread yet, but there's a handful of guys that it looks like people are getting confused who they are asking about.
- The reddish hair guy that was actually driving the truck that "stalled" on the tracks is one of Saul/Mike's guys. He was also the one that was posing as the EPA guy who "busted" Bogdog the carwash owner for contaminated soil.
- The "Indian" guy that came in the big truck that pushed the stalled truck out of the tracks. He looks similar to the guy in Episode 2 Season 1 that helped Walt and Jesse get the RV out of the hole with the backhoe. Looks similar but I don'tt hink they are the same guy.
- Todd, the guy who shot the kid, is one of the pest control workers.

Yes, you could definitely hear the train at the end of the intro when the kid was putting the spider in the bottle.

No, because they show him in the diner on his 52nd birthday.
If any of the whites don't make it to his next birthday I think it will be Skylar and/Junior.

Good question. It's hard to imagine it as being anything other than one of the last cpl episodes. I can't see them having a year pass in the next cpl episodes when they've only had a year pass since the pilot.

I think Vince already knows how he wants it to end and has an outline of how the rest of the series will play out. When they say they're writing the last season now they're probably just putting the final touches in on the dialogue and such. I figure the general idea of how each episode will go has been decided.
Edit. Lastly, I am going to be very sad to see this series end. I'm glad they are going out on top before the story gets stale or too ridiculous, but I will miss the hell out of this show. As soon as a box set of the series is released I plan to buy it and rewatch it. I haven't gone back and watched any of the previous seasons since they originally aired, so I know there's a ton of stuff I forgot, missed, or didn't catch on the first showing.
I really hope they end the show well and don't frick it up. I have no reason to suspect they will screw up the ending, but its like watching a pitcher carry a perfect game into the 8th and 9th innings of a World Series game 7 with a 10 run lead. Even though you know he's going to get the win & the championship, you want to see him get the perfect game.

i don't think the position of the train car is a big deal. maybe they got the chance to see the train once, but that is about all it would take.
What I got out of Lydia talking about tipping them off to which car it would be is that the car they wanted to target was not consistent in it's positioning among all the other cars. One Wednesday, it might be car number 12, one Wednesday it might be car number 56. Which is why she had to tell them which car it was as soon as she found out.

They will be deviating away from the established pace either way.
If you end Season 5 (first 8) with him on his 52nd birthday, you skip a year in a season.
If Season 5 (second 8) ends with him on his 52nd bday, you still skip a year in much shorter time.
Either way, they are going to be fast forwarding a year in a much shorter time frame than the first 4 seasons.
