Also, hypothetically, if Stannis had not listened to Davos and brought Melisandre with him, he would have easily won the castle.

Or if Edmure Tully had followed Robb's instructions and kept his happy arse in Riverrun then Tywin would have been trapped across the river and unable to save King's Landing or meet up with the Tyrells. Everything pretty much went right for the Lannisters.

I'm just thinking about this, and also reading Dunk and Egg.. There are dozens of other books that can be written about the POV charecters that fill in all these gaps, as well as 'what if' books. I just wish GRRM could crank them out like Turtledove. That dude has fifteen, eleven and eight book series that all came out in a single decade.

He may have won but he would've been looked at the same way Bloodraven was. He would've been king but he would've dealt with a new rebellion every other year.
Like Renly said, "No one wants you as their king"
They would've wanted him even less if it was thought that sorcery won him his crown.

Renly's 'Ghost' is what really fricked Stannis over. Many of the lords and knights that switched over after Renly's death shite their pants and ran.

That reminds me. On my reread of Dance I just got to the passage where they pulled the Butcher King out of the grave to fight the Windblown

There is no way I would want to serve under Stannis, he sucks as a man and a king. Davos seems happy with his finger bones.
I mean, oh thank you smuggler for bringing us food, now let me cut off your finger tip bones for smuggling.
I think I would rather anyone alive but him to be king.

Who was Renly's ghost?
I remember that part, but don't remember who was behind it.

Varys started the Harrenhal rumor to frick with Aery's head. Rhaegar didn't even consider making changes until before he left for the Trident where he was talking to Jamie before leaving.
eta: I hope Jamie isn't being delivered by Brienne to Lady Stoneheart.

Garlan Tyrell wore Renly's armor and helm.

Loras's older brother I think....
Either his brother or uncle I don't remember

Stannis follows the law. The law would have called for more punishment than that...plus he raised Davos to a knight, gave him good land, took in his son as a squire, and eventually raised him to a Lord and Hand of the King.

Yea and Davos saved his life.
You don't chop off a mans fingers when that man just saved you from a hard long death by starvation....

I'm not saying it was what I'd do, but that's how Stannis operates. I actually think he'd be a good king because there would be no leeway under him. He'd have total control over everything. In the end, I think he either clears a path for Jon or becomes his hand. Although, it wouldn't surprise me if he sits on the Iron Throne at the end. There's a reason he's outlasted so many other Kings and lived through so many tough times.

He would be a good hand but not a good king.
Better king than the last 4 mind you but still not a good king.
He would be a better ruler than Dany however.

This like Renly said "No one wants you for their king"
I don't think Brienne is going to deliver Jamie.
Brienne told Cately "Stannis" the TV show played this scene out well, Catelyn promised with everything that she had, that when the time came, she would not stop Brienne from going after Stannis.
This is going to set up an epic match at Winterfell.
With Catelyn and Briene coming up, Rickon coming back with Davos, Stannis coming down with his army, and whoever else wants to show up for the winter party.
Posted on 5/2/12 at 7:06 pm to Napoleon
Brienne is in the river lands, there's no way she could reach Stannis in a timely manner to kill him in the next book unless Stannis marched south after Winterfell. I think Brienne's end will be saving Jamie from something.

Dany's two legacies at this point will be keeping House Targaryen alive if Aegon is a Blackfyre, and defeating the Others with her dragons.

This is what we think will happen but this is GRRM so it probably wont

It looks like Aegon is either a Targ or a Blackfyre (which is a Targ, IMO)
So they may couple. But I personally see Aegon dying and not being a head of the dragon. I think he was just added to throw everyone off. I think Jon and Dany end up in the end, and I think Bran and Tyrion will have major roles.
