Watched a fascinating movie last night about the rise and fall of the Blackberry phone. I couldn’t really tell if the acting, production of the movie was good or not because the age setting of the movie, but it was a very interesting story.
It’s a good watch if you are looking for something to watch on tv

A few of us that post here watched it this past week in a pick a movie per week rotation. I think we all enjoyed it quite a bit. Was a solid movie.

is there a thread that this takes place in or is it a cool kids club?

Great, are we going to have to start another group thread just to accommodate 3nOut?

Very very solid movie IMO. Thought Dennis was actually excellent in it too.

Really good movie. Felt like a throwback to the mid level budget bangers that used to be common place, but have gotten eeeked out of the market with the explosion of tent poles
My biggest takeaway is that this movie felt like the first authentic time piece movie about the late 90s-early 00s. They did a really great job of making the setting and putting you back in that era, without it being over the top or played up as a joke - which I feel happens in other attempts to make a movie about that time period
Think it speaks to it finally being long enough between now and that period for it to feel like it had some level of distinction, but also just at the high quality of the movie and writing
One area I think was a bit of a miss was the SEC plot. I’m glad they didn’t just do the standard Wolf of Wallstreet type beats with this, but it felt like sort of a nothing add on to the story and didn’t really pay off much at the end. Just sort of “oh yeah that thing also happened”. Felt like it could’ve been done better or left out
Overall very good movie and I’m glad they just tried to make a good movie and it wasn’t a 2 hour ad for BlackBerry

solid 4/5 for me. felt really grounded and i had no idea about the story of blackberry and how all 3 guys Mike Lazaridis, Doug Fregin and Jim Balsillie are all billionaires still today.
Hell Doug sold all his shares of blackberry right before the iphone came out at the height of the stock.
i felt sad watching Mike give in and finally move production to China only to hear the white noise they foreshadowed at the beginning of the movie.

Would absolutely buy a blackberry right now with that keyboard and high quality screen. Loved those things.

ditto. i'm on my 5th (i think???) iphone in 13 years. i had a personal blackberry, but when i started with my current company they moved us all to iphones and i've never gone back.
I saw motorola released one a while back but i guess it didn't do well
the only thing i'd miss is iMessage and Contest of Champions.
