Nothing JC does is rooted in hate or being mean.
With Sam when he realized calling her a lesbian hurt her feelings, he made an effort to build his relationship with her. It was a side of JC that I think is closer to the true dude instead of this act he's using.
Also I think there is a lack of understanding. Earlier in the season he kept calling Winston and Sam white trash until Winston told him it was offensive. JC thought it was anyone who had a country accent. Never again did you hear him say it.
