Although Tower Heist was pretty good for his part in the ensemble as well as he and Owen Wilson in I Spy or whatever.
I thought those movies were horrible.

I think Murphy missed the or ignored the opportunity to cross over ala Bill Murray, Robin William, and Tom Hanks (shut up Freaux). IMO Murphy has the ability and on screen charisma to do more dramatic roles and really show his chops. He must not have the desire though.

Life was his last funny movie. Coincidentally Life was Martin Lawrence's last funny movie as well.

I thought I Spy was hilarious.

And his "shitty" movies are very cheap to produce (usually) and make a lot of money. That's why.

I've talked about Eddie before at home.....Eddie stopped being funny when Eddie couldn't make fun of himself and had to be the "cool" leading actor.

It started some in Beverly HC but his career for me ended with Harlem Nights. That's when Eddie became unfunny.

Same thing happens to nearly all comedic actors. Think about it.

Was supposed to play the part of Bart as well until the studio nixed the idea.

Supposedly they couldn't get insurance. You can never tell with Mel, but he alleges that he wrote the "black" parts and Rich wrote a bunch of the "white" parts, but they bounced them off each other to gauge what was funny.

I thought Cleavon delivered the lines with a certain style that elevated it above what Pryor could have done with the material, genius though I think Richard Pryor was.

did you not enjoy Raw and Delirious? just curious b/c i value your pop culture opinion.

I love Delirious. I'm meh on Raw. It has a few good bits, but I can watch like half an hour of it and just think, "Man, this guy is really homophobic for a guy wearing a skintight purple leather costume." I think my basis for overrated starts with Raw and the fact he really didn't do a whole lot after that.

Delirious is unimpeachably great. But that doesn't make you special. Steven Wright's I Had a Pony is also great, and no one puts him on the same level as Carlin or Pryor.

Delirious is the single funniest program I have ever seen on my television.
