Thanks for the info guys. I'm sort of looking to get into Star Trek, myself. I'm on a quasi-mission to become a Joss Whedon/JJ Abrams/Tarantino level nerd.

If you watch the movies, at least watch Space Seed from the original tv series as it gives the background for Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan

I've never seen a franchise get so much out of one TV episode. It's also the basis for the current film.

I was gonna ask the same question. I saw Into Darkness the other day and that's the only Star Trek I have ever seen. I need to watch more of these movies.

You would enjoy the 6 movies. I really love The Wrath of Khan and The Voyage Home.

New movies are a reboot. They do not take place in the same continuity as any of the series or previous movies.

B5 is greater than any single ST series. This is known.

That's correct. I guess some purist get a little pissed at stuff in the new universe, but anything ST is better than nothing. I enjoy the new movies just like the old movies and series. I also don't think that you can label JJ Abrams as someone who just makes popcorn flicks like Michael Bay. My hope is that the new movies spin off into a new series.
