'Gotham' Boss Sets New Batman Prequel Series at Epix (Exclusive)

quote:

Epix is getting into the DC Comics business.

The MGM-owned premium cable network has handed out a 10-episode, straight-to-series order for Pennyworth, a drama set in the Batman universe from Gotham showrunner Bruno Heller.

The series will revolve around Alfred Pennyworth, the best friend and butler to Bruce Wayne (aka Batman). The series is not a Gotham spinoff but rather an entirely new story exploring Alfred's origins as a former British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne — Bruce's billionaire father — in 1960s London. Sean Pertwee, who plays Alfred Pennyworth on Fox's recently renewed Gotham, is not involved.

Kevin Bacon is stupid Fox for ending Gotham after next season.

These shows centered around prequels in the superhero universes all sound so terrible. Who the hell ever said - Batman is so cool, but I wish I could know more about his butler’s backstory!

Me. I didn't think I'd care about a pre-Batman Gotham and that show kicked arse. Same show runner has a new show and goes further back? Only 10 episodes? Of course I'll give it a go.

Me and a million other comic readers once they made Alfred a former OSI agent.

BTW: Alan Napier, the TV Alfred from the 1966 series, was fiercely proud of his role as Batman's butler. After they revealed that Alfred from the comics was formerly with British Intelligence, Napier added that tidbit to his bragging rights.

While it’s technically pre-Batman, pretty much all the villains now are Batman villains.

I'd rather see a series set around Damian

I've always wanted to replace Alfred with a sassy black mammy.

I just think it would be hilarious.

Maybe I should give it another shot. I gave up after season 2.
