That's what I thought. Otherwise they would have mentioned his college choice at the breakfast along with Matt, Lyla, Tyra, and Riggins. I did think in the beginning of the series he was supposed to be the same age as Matt, but the way this season went, it was like Landry was a junior.

.........did Matt decide at some point to stay in Dillon? All I saw him do was get his Grandma out of the nursing home and tell her he was taking her home. Did he actually say he wasn't going to Chicago? Did I miss that?
Yeah when he got Grandma from the nursing home to bring her to the wedding he told her that he was staying because she was the only person who had never left him so he wasn't going to leave her

I've not really noticed the credits - is Smash gone from the show? I know he wasn't on the team anymore but figured he'd be one of those Riggins type characters who is around.

There were some great scenes in the last episode, especially between Tim and Billy, Tyra and Landry, Matt and his grandmother, and Tim & Layla. The theme of personal sacrifice can be overly sentimental on most television shows, but it works on FNL because of the character development.
The only thing that really annoyed me was the plot twist with Coach Taylor. In a football-crazy town like Dillon (a.k.a. Odessa), the school board would never let a proven winner like Coach Taylor walk away from the program, especially because of one wealthy booster who wants to hire someone with no coaching experience. The idea of reopening East Dillon sounds like a stretch to me as well, but it's a plot arc that allows Coach Taylor's family to stay in Dillon.
I have a feeling that next season will be similar to the first season, except the team just won't be as talented, so instead of winning the state championship, the team will probably qualify for the state playoffs or something.
Do you guys think that the graduating seniors like Layla, Tim, and Tyra will still be involved in the show next year?

Yeah, they featured him on the first 4 episodes. He ended up walking on to A&M with the possibility of getting a scholarship, and from what Buddy said while he was talking to the parents of the offensive lineman they were recruiting, he did pretty well his first year.
Did anyone else get annoyed by the amount of product placement on last night's show, especially when the guy who played Buddy Garrity talked about how Chevrolet was a part of the FNL family? Oh well. If it keeps the show on the air for two more seasons, I'm definitely willing to put up with it.

i think they'll keep them around some like they did smash & street, then also pull in new characters.
think the show will now be about both schools all the way thru?

The show can go in so many directions. If they let Tyra, Layla, and Riggins go to college, the show will have lost 5 of their main characters from Season 1 and 2. Landry, Saracen, and Julie can only add so much to the show, so I wouldn't be surprised if some of the episodes revolve around Wade, JD & his father, and the new Dillon Panthers.
If Tyra flunks out of UT and Riggins quits the team at San Antonio State, then I can see them gradually writing the McCoys out of the script and focusing on the original cast again.
Fwiw, I think it would be so contrived if Tyra and Layla have to come back to Dillon because college didn't work out for whatever reason. Riggins quitting the team and moving back to Dillon is more feasible, and I can definitely see that happening since he has become the breakout star of the show.
Based on Scott Porter's blog, I think we've seen the last of Jason Street, but I think his exit from the show was pretty well written.

How bad is Coach Taylor & E. Dillion going to beat Dillion and that prick McCoy next season? I can't believe the school board actually voted to pass that. RIDICULOUS!
$$$$ like Mccoy's goes a long way. By the way, has it ever been said on the show where Mccoys money came from? What kind of work does he do?

Well Landry still plays football. I bet there will be a moment where he decides to join Coach Taylor at ED and somehow becomes a breakout star.
I also bet there will be a huge fight over the redistricting and numerous players (and their parents) who wanted to stay at the original Dillon will have to play for Coach Taylor or not play at all. Eerily similar to the original Mighty Ducks where Adam Banks has to leave the Hawks and play for District 5.
Considering Taylor Kitsch (Riggins) is starting to pick up some bigger roles in feature films, I'm willing to bet that his character will only last another few episodes before they write him out.
Also, I have a strange feeling that Matt's grandmother will pass away, and he will feel the need to get out of Dillon as well. That gives them one more season to develop a new cast of characters while also focusing on Matt, Julie, and Landry (at least, maybe even Riggins, Tyra, and Lyla, as well). If they do it well enough, they can have pretty much a new ensemble for the fifth season.

The season finale was one of the best episodes I've seen in a while. I don't know how Coach Taylor always stayed so calm and collected around McCoy. I would have smashed that guy's face in 3 episodes ago.

The question I have is, was the finale written before or after the show was picked up for 2 more seasons. I know it just got picked up a couple weeks ago, which would lead me to believe the finale was already done, unless they did some last second re-writing.
This being the case (the finale was already done before they got picked up)I'm not sure if even the writers know where it's going. The way it ended could have easily been the series finale. All the major characters had exit stories? So this thing could go anywhere, but I agree there are a lot of story lines they can play off of.

I have that feeling as well. With all the sympathy they have created for Matt and his Granny, I could see her dieing off very soon in the next season to create another storyline about Sarecen.

I think that Riggins' character is too big and he has too much of a following to be taken out of the show completely. There are chicks that watch this show for him and him only. No way he gets written out. They would lose veiwers IMO.

FWIW, i read on tvguide.com that the only current cast member that has already said they won't return is the actress that plays Lyla.

So the new head coach is named Aikman, and the QB is named McCoy. Only in Texas...

I loved this finale. It works as a series finale and as a cliff hanger now that it got picked up for two more seasons. I really loved how at the end of the episode they played to theme song from the opening credits, only they played a slower more haunting version of it. This series knows how to use music to enhance the drama.
I love the theme of change in this series. At the age of most of these characters it is very realistic that life takes them in different directions. some will chase dreams, some will stay in the small town and some relationships will be broken and people won't be the same. This is just how life is when you are 17 or 18 years old.
Can't wait till next season.

The Finale and the episode when Smash got to walk on at A&M, when he went to coaches house to thank him, were the 2 best episodes of the season in my opinion.
