The first Plant of the Apes is a super-influential SciFi movie. Revolutionary in vision, the makeup effects (they are starting to look dated now) really did set the standard for what a decent bdget could buy you then, and just a general level of acting not seen in a classic science fiction setting.
Chuck was over the top, as was the script, but my G-d that was/is a fun movie.
