I just don't get the "oh NO, Edgar Wright didn't direct this film!" hysteria. He's a guy. He's made ONE full-length movie that was not a Simon Pegg movie, and it was a mediocre adaptation of an inventive book. I actually have more faith in Reed, who did Down with Love, but also has far more experience with offbeat indy comedy: he directed TV shows for Weird Al, Mr. Show, and the UCB. He also did short films for Superchunk. He's got far more indy weirdo cred.

DOFP is clearly just a mental showdown between Xavier, Magneto, and Mystique. Those are the clear 3 main characters, with Wolverine merely being a catalyst to what is going on. The tension comes from these 3 characters in the past, not what's going on in the future. Days of Future Past I think is still great.
Now, with that out of the way, I don't see how Ant Man is in any way atrocious. It was everything I was hoping for it to be. It had great characters, it was funny, smart, a great heist movie, and has the best Iron Man villain to date. I just don't see what there isn't to like about this movie. I'd say Winter Soldier and Guardians were superior films in the MCU, but I'd put it on the same level as the first Avengers. Best superhero origin story to date for a Marvel superhero.

Your Freudian slip is showing.

I'm burnt out on super heroes movies and haven't liked a Marvel movie since Avengers 1 outside of Captain America 2 (GOTG was good but over-rated). Avengers 2 was terrible. This pleasantly surprised me. I could do without the walking Mexican stereotype sidekick though.

It was entertaining. I had low expectations, but did enjoy the movie.
