a friend of mine did it, but he didn't say how many rounds. Just said that he auditioned in front of some producers.
He did say that a ton of good people were cut before seeing the judges and then you watch the show and see some of the weirdos that they do let see the judges, it pissed him off. Cause basically they are leaving out people who might have a chance to give someone who they know won't make it tv time

My gf's sister tried out. The first round was a group of like 6 people. They each got to sing for like 10 seconds. She is on a music scholarship for her singing and didn't get through. She said they picked 2 terrible singers and 1 good one. Then she said she was told there were 2 more rounds before going to the judges.
