because the movie is cannon in that universe it destroys that universe in the process.
I agree with this.
Think about it. The prequels were there to give background to the skywalker saga
The sequels are here to destroy it. They are burning it to the ground (litereally, having yoda do that is key) and starting over. It's explicitly said in the movie almost 4th wall breaking and it's set out to destroy it to start a new.
I think that's why everyone is butthurt. They can't let it go. Disney wants to create their own SW universe while closing out this one.
This trilogy will end up being nothing more than a bridge for a total reboot. Entertaining but pisses off a lot of OT purists in the process. It's a necessary step to get where they want to go.
The difference is I applaud it. It's a ballsy move and one that will make the entire universe better once they expand past the Skywalker saga.

I think people are "butthurt" because the story sucks. It's just bad storytelling.
quote:No problem from me. Just do so while telling a good story. They failed with TLJ.

a lot of shite happened 30 years prior to the OT and how much of the trilogy is dedicated to rehashing it? very very little
You'll get that in the books, comics, tv shows, video games and other ancillary mediums they'll pump out. Same as it's always been.

I do agree it could have been done better. Way better even. But it's not the turd it's made out to be. People here are defending the prequel trilogy over this movie.
No, just no. It's not perfect, it's not the best SW film. It's not as bad as people are making it out to be.

it's a good story with lovable characters.
No it isn't. It's a rehashed story with unique characters. I like it, but only because I was a child the first time I saw it. Nostalgia makes it good, and nothing more.

the problem with snoke is these stupid movies are so focused on what has happened the last 30 years that snoke feels like he's a part of the story
honestly watching TFA, snoke is barely in that film whatsoever. and actually HE himself isn't.

I've seen ANH more than any movie ever. I love it. It's got nothing to do with nostalgia.

lol, I agree.
The bar scenes with the aliens getting drunk and listening to shitty music looked like something out of the muppets. People like star wars just to like star wars.

Answer this:
Answer this:
quote:
If in Nolan's third Batman movie, his parents showed up and were like, hey Bruce, what's up, and then started flying around like Superman and beating some of his adversaries to death with no explanation of how they got there or why the hell they weren't ever around for Bruce's childhood or how they have superpowers or anything and then they just died with no explanation but it served the plot device of making Batman a violent gun user now who kills people.
You would be ok with that?

Then simply start the movie 150 years after RotJ, really play the legend of the Skywalker clan and the myth of the Rebellion Wars and start a new story with no Skywalker's, no Solos, just some random girl who learns that regardless of the myths, she has some connection to a "Force" and she starts a journey to find out what it means and gets involved in a galactic power struggle that is shaped differently than the one we've already seen.
Maybe you have this all powerful guy who's called Snoke who runs everything....there is no balance, no Luke, no Yoda, no Jedi.....

See I think what they did was easy, ballsy would have been to completely abandon what happened before and start fresh. Don't use the Skywalker/Solo/Jedi crutch.

Why are the defenders spending so much time and energy trying to convince people the movie wasn't bad? Why not just let people rant for a few days?
You liked the movie, good for you bro!

This may have been said, but I’m not going to read yet another whole thread on this, but reading the comments about the humor in TLJ made me laugh, wondering how bad the shite flinging would be for Chewbacca making the Tarzan noise in ROJ.

You're making TLJ more bold than it actually is
