No. It belongs with the Martian. Both deserve to be up there, no one more than the other. I also though Straight Outta Compton deserved one. Very surprised it didn't.
Welp, that settles it then
I just didn't think The Martian was that great. It was good, definitely not best picture worthy. Just my opinion tho

QT not nominated for original screenplay?
Ex Machina with only two nominations?
Glad to see The Revenant getting some love, though.

Brooklyn was a nice little movie, but I don't know if it was Oscar worthy.

Fassbender is better in every way, so, he deserves it.
Leo reeks of desperation.
Have you seen The Revenant? Leo is outstanding.

Yea, Leo again chooses to make a badass movie...
"He reeks of desperation"
It's just the cool thing to say now.

He'll do anything to get an Oscar.
Even give an amazing performance in a great movie.

How did The Revenant get left of this list?
ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
I mean, I'm not sure the screenplay was all that special. The acting, cinematography, and directing carried the day.

quote:Pitiful. Sometimes the best movies aren't as recognized by the Academy. In fairness, though, I can't really think of a category where it should have been nominated and wasn't. Maybe Best Picture. I don't think the actors or director were good enough to knock any of the other nominees off the list.
Ex Machina with only two nominations?
quote:Agreed. And in this semi-down year for good movies, it should take home a lot of hardware.
Glad to see The Revenant getting some love, though.

Just saw this rant against the Academy posted on Deadspin and thought I'd share. LINK
quote:
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the organization that awards Oscars, is a bullshite invitation-only honorary society of a few thousand Hollywood assholes, and Hollywood is a provincial shithole populated almost exclusively by stupid, vain people with bad taste
quote:
For more than 80 years the Academy has demonstrated as publicly as possible...that what it does is give trophies to industry insiders who make mediocre, respectably-dressed middlebrow studio films grooved to flatter a certain privileged, blithely liberal-ish sensibility shared by their peers. Anyone old enough to buy a ticket to any of this year’s Best Picture nominees is old enough to know this, and to expect it, and to treat this grotesque annual self-congratulation party by reprehensible morons like exactly the small, irrelevant, provincial curio it always has been.

He's good. But nothing special. He's had several performances in the past that were better than this.

My thoughts exactly. Great work, deadspin

Damn right.
My favorite flick of the year and its not close.

Sicario was garbage to me
Sicario was fricking awesome. Did you really think that movie was garbage?
Its not some masterful Best Picture, but for what it was...it was awesome. What a fun theater experience and GREAT ending.

Inside Out should have been nominated for best picture. It also should win best picture.

Same here. Love that movie wish I could get on that ride again.
Can't way to see where they go next with the character/story.

I'm kind-of surprised Carol is not in the Best Picture category. I was shocked at how great of a film it was overall. If Rooney Mara doesn't win Best Supporting Actress I'll be a bit disappointed.
