It seems like most comedy stars have a fairly short shelf life. They will be drop dead funny for maybe a decade, then, all of sudden, they will be about as humorous as watching a beloved family pet struggle with arthritis.

I think that having a lot of top comedic writing talent working on Comic Book and Action movies has hurt pure comedies quite a bit. Not to mention the top comedic actors have followed them.

Take a look at Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan are all gifted comedic actors. Usually they would be doing straight comedies but the action comedies pay better and tend to do better at the box office.

Jack Black can pad his bank account nicely doing Voice Acting and starring in action comedies and every year or two treat himself to starring in a low budget comedy. Karen Gillan is in the same position.
