Rewatching on Hulu for the first time since seeing it in the theater with my high school girlfriend (target audience at the time)
First reaction "oh shite that's Paul Rudd" "Why does that guy in drag look so familiar, oh shite that's Michael Dawson from Lost"
Big time 90's nostalgia feel

My daughter just had a semester on RJ for freshman HS English. First thing I did was tell her to watch this.

It’s one my my all time favorites.

Great version.

I'd love to see a few other of Shakespeare's plays made like this: Othello, Hamlet, Julius Caesar, etc.

In the 1990s, anachronistic, modern adaptations of Shakespearean plays were a dime a dozen.

For example, 10 Things I Hate About You is a re-telling of The Taming of the Shrew.

If you want something that keeps the original text of the play like Romeo + Juliet, try Kenneth Branaugh’s Hamlet (1996).

I watched this and Moulin Rouge reluctantly with the gf/now wife. I enjoyed both of them. In fact, Im not embarrassed to say Moulin Rouge is one of my favorites to watch with her. Baz Luhrmann did an outstanding job on both. I never watched the first one in the trilogy though.

Very underrated in terms of the range he has as an actor.

But his mush mouth delivery in this one is terrible. Literally the worst part of the film for me.

Having #1 Crush by Garbage on the soundtrack but only featuring 5 notes of the song in the movie (a capella in the church) is criminal.

This came out when I was 14. That song was pretty good too.

Have to agree. We watched it in class and my teacher didn’t even censor the titty shot.

If you want a good modern adaptation of Shakespeare, watch Coriolanus with Ralph Fiennes.
