Never know the best way to discuss these binge shows as they all dump and never know what stage folks are at so figured we could start a midpoint discussion thread with folks’ theories after half a season (4 episodes):

So I’ve never watched any of the Lost type shows so this isn’t really my bag so to speak, but I’m liking it so far. I’m a sucker for creepy kids, and I love historically set shows.

As far as theories, I don’t really have a clue what’s going on. My best guess is that the main girl Maud or whatever her name is is actually in some sort of psych word after previously performing all kinds of crazy brain experiments on her patients.

It seems like the boy and the older guy from the Prometheus are older and younger versions of the same person I guess?

Idk, pretty clueless on how this whole thing shakes out but really enjoying it so far!

Your guess is as good as any. I’m 4 episodes in and have no clue what the frick is going on, but I’m interested.

It does seem like the kid and Daniel the bug guy are the same person. And if I was paying attention correctly, the Prometheus list of passengers included Maura, which is why the captain didn’t share that with her when he found it.

The thing that still sticks with me is the first episode when every one in first class was eating and all drinked at exactly the same time. No idea what that meant, but it had to be telling of something.

Is it just me or is naming shows a year like 1899 a fricking retarded idea? I constantly get it mixed up with 1883

Yeah.. I told my wife I have not clue what is going on but I think everything is somehow connected to the main character's psychosis..

I just don't know how..

Her name is Maura, not Maud.

i've been watching NOT the english dubbed version. If you notice they have spoken like 10 different languages on this ship. Quite the diverse group of passengers and crew.
English
German
Polish
Danish
Norwegian
French
Spanish
Portuguese
Cantonese
Japanese

Im 5 episodes in and its starting to have a shutter island feel to it. It all seems like some kind of psychotic episode to it.

Can't wait for everyone in this thread to come back once they finish the season.

I'm a few more episodes in but I think the name 1899 is a red herring.

Meant to throw you off the scent of WHEN the show is really taking place,

Yea I just can’t watch dubbed shows. I know some do it and say that Netflix’s are pretty good these days, but it just throws everything off for me, makes the acting seem so bad when the sounds they’re saying and their facial features don’t matchup.

Maybe I’m just a stickler, but I find it entirely distracting. I was struggling through the first episode with it dubbed and switched to English with subtitles, and it’s soooo much better. There’s enough English, and then I think all the different languages are really cool and add a richness to the show.

There’s no doubt that 1 of 2 (or both things are true): there’s either a time travel component involved or a huge mental dream / psychosis thing involved as in either the 2nd or 3rd episode they showed a scene of someone watching a bunch of TV screens. They obviously didn’t have that in the 1800s so either there’s time travel or someone is seeing that in their dreams or being controlled in their head some way
