I'll give you that the jokes on BBT aren't clever or thinkers, but I don't think it's remotely low brow or crude
When I say low brow, I mean doesn't take much thought to get. They do a lot of fart jokes (Leonard's lactose intolerance is basically joked about every show), sex jokes, and just other easy to get humor.
I like the show, but anyone who says its for geeks is kidding themselves.

I've met the author of that article, he's an indie comics creator. My guess is that if he wears a Green Lantern T-Shirt he's doing it ironically.
The article as a whole is a pretty big miss. The geek references in the show are about 98% on the mark. You might know more interesting geeks, but they wouldn't be entertaining enough to carry a sitcom. I've spent enough time at cons and in comic shops to know the different levels of geekdom. All fun to watch, but only in small doses.
As a geek, my main beef with BBT and other geek programs is the stereotype of the geek that can't get a date. BBT started with this, but all of the geeks have hooked up at this point, including Sheldon. The fact is, any PHD that is working on their level of practical physics would be able to get some decent tail. Those guys aren't teaching, they're in the private sector pulling in some real cash. Cash=women.

The stereotype is the reason all the shows go with it. Really, if a show came out where the geeks were the ones getting all the tail, there'd be a bigger outcry about how "unrealistic and stupid" it is for a show to have such a thing. It's the society we're a part of, we point out the stereotypes and yet it's what we expect.
And frick that article, Bazinga is great.

Too bad I can only catch it at 3:00AM.
Yes, and only on weekdays. If you're watching that you might as well eat breakfast before you go to sleep.

I used to collect Starting Lineup sports figures. A friend who also collected them took me to a Star Wars toy con. Of course people attending were dressed like characters and they had character look-a-likes and some production people lecturing there. Yes, it was entertaining but once was enough.
I went with him to a guys apartment that made The Forty Year Old Virgin character's place look like Otter from Animal House's pad. This guy had the figures covering all of the walls in a one bedroom apt. He had shelves in his living room and dinning room with the big space ship models. He also had them hanging from the ceiling with fishing line. He had opened some of the toys and had two big scale models of scenes from two of the movies, one in the living room and one in his bedroom. This was before 40 year old virgin came out but the possibilities of the guy never dating went through my mind immediately.
I worked with a guy who dressed in a Star Trek uniform every Halloween. He named his fantasy football team Photon Torpedoes. He came in one Monday talking about meeting George Takei. I guess went to a Star Trek con.

So true and many of the guys that got laid a lot when they were younger are settling for the worst women out there because they never bettered themselves to have any cash.

I enjoy video games, occasional anime (bleach/dbz/ghost in the shell/cowboy bebop) and can fix computers... yet BBT is one of my favorite shows.
Example the current episode is hilarious.
I could see how the first season might be hated by "geeks" though.
