Most likely Verlander vs. Sabathia in Game 1.

Girardi has announced that Nova will start Game 2 for New York.

Thoughts on this series?

The Yankees bullpen will be the difference in this series, and the key to victory.

Didn't want to face Verlander, but oh well. CC is well rested. I like our chances.

Yankees in 4.

I kind of wanted the Tigers. We'll see if that comes back to haunt us.

Tigers do not scare me except Verlander, as he will be usual dominant self. Yankees probably get 5-7 hits off him, 1-3 runs, and strike out 8-14 times

It'd be nice if Tex and A-Rod would show up.

Jose Valverde, Joaquin Benoit and Alburquerque have all been solid, and match up favorably to Mariano, Robertson, and Soriano.

Scoring early will be important in this series. Which is why I'm anxious to see what happens when a starter only lasts 4-5 innings.

The Yankees will have Hughes, Colon, and maybe Burnett as a bridge to Mo/So/Ro. That is what will make the difference, in games outside of Verlander/CC starts.

The Tigers want HIM out there as much as possible.

They do.

But that's why they won't see him out there very long.

Same with Brad Penny, IMO.

I agree. The Tigers need game one real bad or they may not be able to use Verlander again. Game one win ='s a huge advantadge for the Yanks.

It's only fitting that these two teams play each other right now.

First series of the regular season they played, and now the first round of the playoffs.

Pretty intelligent analysis. I don't think anyone is giving Fister enough credit. The Yankee's only faced him once when he was with Seattle (yes, they won, but he was with Seattle meaning no run support).

I think both Verlander and Fister go at least 7 innings giving the Tigers a great chance to win. If you want to see what happens when the starter only lasts 4-5 innings, see game 3 when Scherzer faces Garcia. Both pens should get major workouts.
