ISU got screwed, and Mack got to keep his job another week. The refs definitely handed that one to bevo. Thank God we're in the SEC.

I don't see why you would call it dead so early?

Honestly, it probably was the right call. His forward progress was stopped and I don't think that's something that can be overturned on review.

Not enough for me to overturn the call on the field myself. At best it could have gone either way.

Guy got stood up for a solid couple seconds. Seems like a clear stop of forward progress before ball changes possession.

yeah, if was ruled a fumble initially it would have been hard to overturn. Thought it would have been a more egregious call based on all the bitching.

I still think it was a good idea for the coach to do that. Shows his players he has their backs. With that said it is still Iowa St, but #2 for the Cyclones is a stud.

Gonna have to agree.

Lots of my relatives, including both parents, are Iowa State alums so I'd love to join the choir but I'm not seeing it here.

Also, I think ISU really lost the game when they failed to get a TD on the previous possession and instead settled for a short FG. Was that the fault of the refs too?

I hate it when my team leaves the back door open instead of slamming it shut.

Good god, people. It did blow but BSPN didn't really do a time lapse of any kind. They viewed it as a mostly reviewable play, and the replay official/on-field refs relayed it as "down by contact." Now, were the replay refs looking at the footage and sound of the whistle as it compared to the time of the fumble? That is what I'd like to know.

to those of you saying it looks like it was a good call because of a knee, diaf along with ESPN

The Whistle didn't blow and the call on the field was the runner was down by contact. If forward progress had been called, then it would not have been reviewable.

The fact that this was the game winning drive with less than a minute to go in the 4th quarter (texas was down by 6) is why ISU and others watching were so surprised/angered by the blown call and blatant ref homerism.

Not to mention the last texas drive had 3 questionable at best pass interferences that kept their drive alive on 4th down

The whistle did blow it was just a split second after the ball was stripped. I don't think I've ever heard the term "down by contact" used in college football before and wonder if the ref meant to say forward progress.

Are the replay officials allowed to determine when forward progress was stopped?

I watched that video a dozen times and the side angle shows the ball in the ball carrier's hand with his forward progress clearly stopped.

I can definitely see a case where the argument is whether they should have ruled forward progress was stopped. But that's not what we're talking about here. They ruled it was not. And thus, it is unquestionably a horrible call in not giving the ball to ISU.

In a slightly bigger picture, UT struggled with ISU? They may well have 6 more losses. That is a tremendous feat.
