"Which regular-season game eliminated Boise State, Cincinati, and Texas Christian from the 2009 playoff? None. Who knocked Utah out in 2008? Nobody. What sort of playoff leaves out an undefeated team from the nations best conference as happened with Auburn in 2004? Eliminating unbeaten teams doesn't fit most definitions of a playoff."

-Dan Wetzel

Also, the BCS encourages the scheduling of cupcake games, which deminish the value of the regular season. Look at Boise who is ranked higher than us (purely off of record). However, our non conference games WV and UNC have been tougher than most of their regular season games. I see a major contridiction in the way the system is being run. Something must be done about it!

Wait, you just complained about TCU and Boise not getting in and then argue it ENCOURAGES cupcake games?

You want to know which game eliminated Boise last year? Answer: The 12 cupcakes they played

So in your mind, a playoff system would allow any undefeated team to participate? Wouldn't that encourage teams to play cupcakes, go undefeated, and automatically reach the "playoffs"?

Guys... I am saying that the BCS deminishes the regular season by rewarding us for scheduling cupcakes. Also, I am saying that people claim that "every week is a playoff," when this is simply not the case.

A playoff system should be implimented.

There is a 2 team playoff implemented at the end of the season. The 2 best teams from the regular season are invited to participate.

How does the BCS reward cupcakes, when by your first post you show that teams that play weaker schedules are left out?

The BCS rewards teams who play cupcakes, my friend. Look at Boise state, Oregon, and TCU. They all have sub par SOS but they are ranked above us because they remain undefeated. While we have gone through a meat grinder and lost to the #2 team in the nation (who in my opinion should be #1)

no it doesn't, it was cupcakes that kept Auburn out in 04, it was cupcakes that killed USC in 2007 and 2008, and its cupcakes that hurt Boise and TCU.

Well, Boise and TCU are being left behind by Auburn and Oregon right now, so how are they rewarded? Just like how they were punished last season, same with Cincinnati

LSUMATT. I know you have the BCS figured out like the back of your hand, but step back and take a look at the BCS for what it is.

2004 - USC (preseason #1) Oklahoma (preseason #2). Auburn (preseason #17 writers and #18 with coaches). All three teams went undefeated. So you are saying that USC and OK were definitely the best two teams?

I would have rather seen a playoff where all teams prove themselves against one another than use the logic that "well since OK and USC were ranked #1 and #2 going into the season and didnt lose, they deserve to play for the championship. But Auburn doesn't since they weren't voted high enough in the preseason rankings." That, my friend is pure foolishness, and it is exactly how the BCS works.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

hard to say, but they did play better schedules, the unbiased computers gave those 2 the edge.

FWIW, I'd prefer a 4 team playoff to the current set up, but rather the current BCS to any larger playoff like 8 or 16.

You are missing my point. As a fan do you enjoy watching LSU destroy teams like ULM and McNeese? The fans don't enjoy it, the players don't care about the game, and LSU has nothing to win by playing those teams.

However, with the BCS in place they will continue to play cupcakes to keep their records unblemished.

Really that's how it works? Might want to tell Boise and TCU, they both started ahead of Oregon and Auburn.

8.Nebraska
9.Iowa

14.USC
15.Pittsburgh
16.Georgia Tech
17.Arkansas
18.North Carolina

yes they did pal. The irony is the only reason you disagree is based on nothing but your own subjective view. The unbiased computers and SOS formulas say other wise.

+1. Just about every computer poll on the planet had Auburn #3 in 2004. Objectively, Auburn played a weaker schedule.

I went and looked and I think the top 2 BCS computer teams have made the CG almost every year. 2007 being an exception (Va Tech was slightly higher than LSU).

Have you seen LSU's OOC Basketball schedule? What in the world makes you think a playoff would have LSU schedule 4 powerhouses OOC? Cupcakes have always and will always exists for a variety of reason. Under the current system, a terrible schedule can kill you, with a playoff it would not, depending on the type of playoff you institute.

My guess is that if BSU or TCU get in the NCG, those holdouts of a playoff system will see the light and you will have a playoff very soon.

Hope this happens.
