Watching FSU/Miami from last season on ESPNU, and trying to understand how FSU could go from Jimbo to Willie. He had two seasons as a HC with 8 or more wins, both at South Florida, winning one of two bowl games during those seasons. Won 7 at Oregon, but lost the bowl game to Boise. Am I missing something?

Why do you think so? I'm not sold.

Overall record looks like shite because he's had several rebuilds. Good hire though.

Was USF really a "rebuild"? At Oregon his one season he had a losing record in conference. I get the perception, but I'd think he'd need to have proven himself a little more before getting the keys to the kingdom somewhere like FSU.

Great recruiter, won big at Western Kentucky and USF, grew up as an FSU fan and is local.
My only concern would be how long he actually stays.

How is anyone supposed to answer this?

His QB kept getting hurt (Justin Herbert).

Never won more than 7, and only one winning season in conference

and USF,

Good question, will be interesting to watch over the next couple of seasons.

I thought he was a good recruiter, decent game planner, and a poor in-game coach.

He hasn’t coached a game at Florida state. From his previous stops I think he’s a great recruiter, good motivator, and decent to poor in game coach. But coaches tend to get better with time and with more resources. He has the most resources he’s ever had so I’ll wait until he actually coaches a few seasons before I determine if it was a good hire or not.

I agree - but I guess I was looking for more predictive analysis... I just thought that FSU would have gone with more of a sure thing - seems like a huge gamble to me. One I hope works out FWIW -from what I've seen/read he seems like a great dude.

We're talking Taggart, not Miles.

USF was 3-9 and dead last in the conference when Taggart took over so that definitely classifies as a rebuild. At Oregon he finished 2 games better in conference than his predecessor even though his starting QB missed 5 games. You can clearly see a ton of potential there if you look deeper than the record.
