Since 2012, only 2 teams have average over 40K per season.

A lot easier?
In the 1960's?
It's called concentration of talent.
It's a lot easier when you have MORE teams and less concentration of talent...where a few big dog teams with endless payrolls hog all the talent and everyone else is thinned out.
Steinbrenner bought up everyone...and with 30 teams - DOUBLE THE 60's - the herd was thinned. You had a bunch of shitty baseball teams in the 90's trying to compete with the Yankees payroll. There's only so much talent to go around.
Just like the shitty 90's NBA and high school kids getting max contracts because everyone was desperate and there wasn't enough talent to go around.
It was far more difficult in the 60's with half the teams and concentrated talent...where 60's bench warmers became starters in the 90's with expansion.
All expansion and more teams does is open up more spots for players who would otherwise not be in the Big Leagues.

Are you surprised that the New York Yankees are stuck with 27 World Championships in 2018?

Why didn't the 2002 Yankees win the '02 World Series?
All within the last three weeks. You can probably just bump one of these again next time you feel compelled to start another Yankees thread
