Why would Auburn want to be called the Tigers?

Its not their original, hell i dont even think its there second mascot.....
So is there a significance to holding on to Tigers? Not to mention you have Clemson and LSU as prominent "tigers"
Just seems they would be more apt to discsrd the name.

You do know that Clemson stole our mascot and our colors. Heisman took both from Auburn when he started Clemson's program. Read a book.

War Eagle is a battle cry, not a mascot... like Hail State, Woo Pig Sooie, Gig em Aggies, etc.

...and there's 3 teams in the SEC that have tigers as their mascot. (Missouri also)

The word "tigers" appears once in that poem, but the Loveliest Village people didn't read the whole thing, or they would have known the word "tide" appears twice.

Doesn't make sense. Mascot is a Tiger. War cry should be "Roar Damn Tiger!". They have two mascots from an outsiders perspective.
