You see, THIS is the problem. Do you think LSU can only carry out its mission if funding is cut to the smaller schools?
It would certainly help

So you think that LSU should hurt other schools in order to help themselves? And you wonder why some UL fans hate LSU.

Our fans are tired of LSU telling us to "know our place."

Everyone knows the state's higher ed would be infinitely better with only LSU (state/med/law), UNO (New Orleans), ULL (Acadiana), and La Tech (north Louisiana). But it will never happen.

You're bad at trolling.

Please tell me that this is part of the fun jawing that we talked about yesterday and not a real argument.

1) LSU is not going out of its way to hurt you guys. This is the most pathetic shite I've ever seen. LSU is the flagship university for the state and with good reason.
2) You can go ahead and claim Southern and Grambling as reasons you don't have enough funds. how about McNeese State? Southeastern? Northwestern?
Fact is that Louisiana stupidly has too many 4 year colleges that are state funded.
LSU is the main university and then you likely would have La Tech in the North and UL Lafayette in the West. I realistically think ULM should stay to provide a non-purely Science/Engineering based University in the Northern part of the state, but UL Lafayette people might bitch about that.
On top of those 3, right now you have:
LSU-Shreveport
LSU-Alexandria
Southern University
Southern University-NO
Southern University-Shreveport
Grambling State University
McNeese State University
Nicholls State University
Northwestern State University
Southeastern Louisiana University
University of Louisiana, Monroe
That's 14 state funded 4 year colleges for a state that has 4.5 million people and is struggling with quality of education.
Blame your governors and legislatures for refusing to fix this problem. More than half of those schools should be turned into JUCOs, but the idiots in those areas refuse to do so.
That is why UL-Lafayetted is getting screwed. Not because of LSU.

did I ever mention state budget money as a reason for them holding us back?

Lafayette is a funny sports town. Right now they are enjoying the cajuns win but some of the reporting is pathetic.
Just heard the anchor on KLFY go on and on about 42000 at the game in the CAJUNDOME for heaven's sake.
And earlier one reporter mentioned that 42000 came to the game from Lafayette. How funny. Wanna take a bet maybe 24000 at the most? The rest from NOLA area? Nah.

Maybe not you, but other UL-Lafayette people in this thread have. It's pathetic. LSU is blamed by many of these other schools for their woes, when the fact that they even exists as a 4-year university in this state to begin with is the problem.
LSU is a flagship by designation of the state. UL-Lafayette is not so designated, so I don't get the bitching and attempts to gain "relevance" by misrepresenting themselves as one.

Once again I'm not one of those people that hold a grudge on LSU. But for those that do, it isn't just because of budget money. However I do think that there are some useless universities in this state that just take up state money but I dont think UL-Lafayette is one of them. Anyway, some people resent LSU because of their need to be the best at everything. When a school in this state not named LSU has something that's better than them, LSU wants it and usually gets it. This goes for athletics and academics. Look at basketball, LSU didn't start investing in basketball until UL started having a nationally known team, same thing with LaTech and women's basketball, and with UL and softball. These fans believe LSU is doing stuff like this just to keep the other schools down. And it's hard to deny. Why can't there be multiple schools in Louisiana who have success in both academics and athletics? Other states have them. Why can't we?

This animosity goes back to the expulsion of the French settlers from nova scotia and the feeling of isolation they felt coming to LA. It's been passed down thru generations, and they're hatred for BR has only grown as they feel they have never rec'd fair representation in the state. It came to a climax with the whole name change thing and their perception that an LSU heavy state govt rules that state and tries to keep little brother down . They really do feel their failures or lack of success in academics or athletics comes at the expense of LSU succeeding . Just study LA history a little
And it's not a minority of their fanbase, it's a great number, 10-20% vocalize it and prob half really do believe it. It's almost cultish. The half of the fanbase that are true bleed red Cajuns despise the other half that support LSU and don't support ULL with the same extremism. It's sad that their passion and support for ULL comes at the expense of their hatred for anything BR and LSU
FWIW, I lived in Laf for 15 yrs, my sister in law is a professor at ULL and wife went to USL, so I don't make this shite up, I've actually researched it

The reason is because ULL wants to be LSU and never ever will. Also, Lafayette is by far the most anti LSU part of the state.
