Why do teams play soft coverage when they blitz?

I’ve never understood this. If you pressure the qb the hardest throw for him to make is the deep ball and his first reaction will be to look short anyway. Why not takeway the gimme and make them make the difficult play? Too many team play soft when they blitz

Don’t get beat deep, come up and make the play before the first down marker.

You also let them pick you apart 10 yards at a time.
my favorite is corners 12 yards off the WR on 3rd and 3. And the quick pass for an easy 8.

That's the gamble. Try to hit the QB before he gets the throw off. Better than try to hit the QB before he throws a TD downfield.

Its not complicated.
You do that and make the play 85% of the time, and you give up 3 touchdowns in a 20 blitz package.
You play softer and even give up 85% of hot reads on short plays? You give up considerably less points.
