I don't need a link. The COWBOYS became AMERICA'S team when they beat the Dolphins in SB #6,. They had been close SOOOOO many times and finally got there with an ALL_american looking QB and the DALLAS swagger. They became America's TEAM THAT day.

Why, because you dubbed them "America's Team?" Or you felt some national vibe? Because we're talking about when the phrase was first used and only cite is from 1978. But you know for certain that everyone was secretly thinking "America's Team" way before that? Hmm?

The Cowboys were also partially (if not wholly) owned by the US Government for a period of time back in either the 60's or 70's.

Read about it before, but I need to find where I read it again. And yes before anyone asks, it was a legit source.

I seriously doubt that had anything to do with anything related to Dallas being America's Team

No...

Nobody denied that...especially nowadays. All I am saying is part of the "America's Team" persona included flaunting what you had. Pittsburgh was a 'show up with a lunch pail' type of team, while Dallas was about flaunting rings.

Sure, they both busted arse on the field. The Doomsday Defense had a blue collar mentality, but the team as a whole.

The Cowboys were not exclusively on TV across the country like the Braves were.

Even though they are despised by a shite ton of people, we all know the Yankees are "America's Team" (although I recognize that this is a term generally used for the Cowboys).

Comparing the Braves to the Cowboys is a joke.

Monday Night Football and playoff football > Tuesday afternoon on TBS.

MAYBE the Cubs have a similar deal by your logic...but not the Braves. You can find Cowboys fans in alot of places. I am doubting that there are a high amount of Braves fans in Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, NY, Philly, Pittsburgh, etc.

Ya I agree with this, but what he was saying is that it was Once used for the Braves. (Which I really don't agree with it)
quote:

The Atlanta Braves laid claim to the name due to their games being broadcast on cable television systems nationwide on WTBS, building a fan base in areas of the United States far removed from a Major League Baseball team. A 1982 issue of Sports Illustrated had referred to the Braves as "America's Team II".

The Yankees are Baseball version of America's team. With "Red Sox Nation" behind them.
