That was Colorado in 1990. The Kordell Stewart teams were very good but did not win a national title because they couldn't beat Nebraska.

I didn’t think he was that old, but life scoots. I thought I remembered CU’s split being in the same year they got 5 downs that game, but thought that was Kordell. Clearly wrong about at least one.

What year did Rashan Salam win the Heisman?

Talk about a dumb NCAA rule - participating in a NCAA tourney bracket - every college program in the country probably did it for $10 per person for fun. It wasn't like traditional sports betting.

With that said, McCartney ran a renegade program out west and Neuheisel saw the talent and took it on.
Colorado was getting talent out there who knows how - buying players out of LA Calif and Louisiana.

Didn't y'all have like five straight losing seasons after Neuheisel left?

That’s what happens when you hire and retain shite head coaches. Gilbertson and Willingham were lazy coaches who rather be on the golf course than coach or recruit.

I well remember a contingent of UW fans lobbing around the racism bomb at Notre Dame in 2004. Little did they know.

It was a interesting situation.

Colorado and Washington were both preseason Top 10 teams going into 1997. Each had down years in 1997 and 1998.

Neuheisel jumps ship and has a great 2000 season but then starts trending downward again like with Colorado.

It probably is, but just slightly. Colorado was a real power in the 80s and 90s. As was Washington.

I would say it unquestionably is at this point. Washington's administration and alumni are still (for the most part) all-in on chasing championships. Colorado gave up 15+ years ago.

I know nothing of UDub athletic politics but they are a stellar institution academically in the PAC-12 of course, but have a great football history as well. The Johnny-come-lately is Oregon, who I'd like to see lose every game in every sport. My hope is Utah's success grows and is perceived like UDub in another ten years.
