Player with ball crosses opponents goal line = 6 points. Player kicks ball through goal posts = 3 pts. After a TD and from the 2 yard line, player crosses with ball = 2 pts and kicked through goal posts = 1 pt. Player tackled in their end zone = 2 pts.

Was that hard to explain to your friend?

If he has a hard time understanding that, how are you going to explain pass interference, offsides, false starts, illegal motion, illegal formation, illegal forward pass, ect?

An extra point is only worth 1 pt? Surely you can't be serious?

Yes I'm serious and don't ever call me Shirley.

Basically you are just too lazy to break down the scoring system?

6 points per td. A td is scored when the ball carrier extends the ball across the goal line of the opposing team. The scoring team is then allowed an extra point or two point conversion try. Can you guess what each is worth?

I can understand breaking down a fg because you have to explain when and why but a fg is different from an extra point. A fg is awarded 3 points and can be kicked at any time. An extra point is only allowed following a td.

I'm at a total loss how explaining 4 points would be easier than explaining 6.

Its the different points awarded for the same actions that gets them. They see a FG and an extra point as essentially the same thing, kicking through the uprights. The same goes a two point conversion. They figure getting into the endzone is getting into the endzone.

According to this guy's idea you score a TD and get 4 points and either kick an extra point for 3, or go for another touchdown worth 4. That way you still end up with either 7 or 8. It makes more logical senses mathematically but really puts too much importance on the extra points. Someone who doesn't really understand football wouldn't get that.

Might as well kick extra points from the the 40. A good 56 yard extra point. No one would go for two Er four

I understand the mathematics in the system but seriously it's not that hard to break down the difference between a td, fg, xp, 2pt conversion.
/sarcasm
Seriously, try explaining why all these extra points are being returned because the kicker doesn't put enough leg into it and why the game takes 36 hours to end because of all the dead ball extra points being returned for td's thus forcing another extra point.

Here's a better idea.
TD - 2,050 points
FG = 1,200 points
Safety= 822 points
Extra point = 443 points
Sacking the QB = 12 points
Running into a cheerleader and making it look like a total accident = 112 points.

Then, do away with the scoreboard and make every fan bring a hand held calculator.
This will increase math skills and result in economic growth.

You're right.
33 points for an interception + 10 points for each yard returned after the int.
5,000 points for a fumble recovery. That should create some real effort.
1,000 points for a successful on side kick.
400 points for an unsuccessful on side kick..."E for Effort"

does the team that fumbled get points for recovering their own fumble?

Do you lose points if you punt or throw incomplete passes?

Come to think of it, what's the point of getting to attempt extra points after touchdowns anyway? What other sport do you get rewarded with an opportunity to score bonus points after scoring a goal?

FG's within 30 yards should be one point. 30-45 should be two, and over 45 should be three. I think you should lose a god damned point for punting.... It needs to be discouraged.

running backwards on 3rd and long to get more points for a FG...not seeing how that simplifies the game.
