the only one that I can think of that is out of hand is the stupid hill and flag pole in play in Houston.

I hate the hill, but the look on Richie Sexson's face when his estimated 511 foot homer turned into a stand-up double off the flagpole... priceless.

You want to see a park that was f-up like polio, check out the old polo grounds layout. 280 to the LF wall, 258 to the RF wall, 414 & 395 to the power alleys, and 483 to the clubhouse balcony that overhang CF (505 to the fence beneath the balcony).

I love playing at the Polo Grounds on MVP 05, for that reason.

If Arlington's left and right fields were 330, they'd hit 200 HR's a year there. Same with Coors field

You must mean the alleys. Because down the line in left field is 332 and right field is 325.

Shortly before the Dodgers left for Los Angeles, there was a plan to build a dome in Brooklyn, and the home run wall would be 380' all around.

They have home plate preserved where the Polo Grounds used to be, and there's a plaque in what used to be right center where Mays made the catch. Went there a couple months ago with a friend who was visiting.

Where did the outfielders play at the polo grounds? I'm sure the LF and RF had to play more towards the gap, and a little bit deeper to keep balls from going in the gap. How deep did the center fielder play? I bet on really deep flyballs to center, if the baserunner clearly knew the outfielder would catch it, a runner could tag and score from 2nd.

Here's another fun one. They actually built a 42 foot tall screen fence in left field to make it tougher.

LA Colisseum where the Dodgers played for a couple of years.

Mays was playing JUST deep enough on this day.

Yeah I know, but Mays had to run FOREVER to make that catch. So, who knows where he was playing when the ball was hit.

Yeah, I was kind of joking. I hear he was playing fairly shallow, at least relative to that CF.

Yea, he was. That's what made it even more of an amazing catch. I wish there was footage of the play from the beginning.

it's baseball

dumb-arse owners

when compared to only one league having the DH it's no big deal for the fields to be different.

I don't get how 360 ft flyouts make people LOL but a 400 ft fence would cause triples and in-the-park HR's to go up infintessimmaly.
