okay, so how high do we have to be ranked, how many games do we have to win and what conference do we have to be in before it's okay? And was UT known as UT before they reached those standards?

Oh, so the whole academic thing that you've been bantering about is out of the window and all that matters is wins and polls.

In that case, with our recent success in sports, you won't have a problem with us going by Louisiana then because we meet your standards.

No, I'm not the one who is comparing my directional Louisiana school to one of the most prestigious schools in the country. UT fans didn't have to beg everyone to start calling them "Texas". No, they built their own prestige, so everyone knew who they were.

If you're saying that it's only an athletic branding, then I suppose so. But I know that's bullshite because you probably tell people that you go to "UL", right?

Key word "recent". The universities you envy have a tradition of doing it, and don't have to beg for notoriety.

Thing is people know University of Texas at Austin= Texas Longhorns. There is no confusion. They see University of Tennessee Knoxville=Tennessee Volunteers. People don't see University of Louisiana Lafayette= Louisiana Ragin' Cajun. You need to get a bigger profile, which you are currently doing before a change like this will stick.

Yeah obviously it's not sticking but if they keep pushing it and we continue to be successful it may just start to stick. Obviously right now it's not working. But that's what happens when you change your name as much as we have. That's why I kinda wish we just would've stayed at USL but it is what it is.

That is indeed a terrible example because the University of California at Berkley is the oldest institution in the UC system and the flagship.

You have to start somewhere. The university has only been UL Lafayette for 14 years and athletics are becoming more of a focus in recent years. The goal is for people to link Louisiana to Ragin Cajuns. If you want it to stick, you have to stick to it. So what the LSU fans perceive as whining is a necessary part of the long term goal. If you don't press being called your preferred name, it'll never happen.

If you really want to brand your athletic teams as Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns you need your athletic department to spend the $$$ to get the name change out there to the NCAA and the media. Let them know what you want to go by. Do an athletic re branding besides just changing the name on the uniforms and your web site. The NCAA still refers to you as the University of Louisiana Lafayette. ESPN uses Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. CBS uses UL Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns. Seems to me they never got the word you want to be called Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns.

Obviously you have no clue what you're talking about. The university can't be the University of Louisiana. It isn't. Athletics can be branded as Louisiana and theres nothing that says they can't. Do you have some problem with loopholes?

Nah, you just know that your school can't live up to them. You don't honestly think that ULL can ever match the success of Tennessee or Texas or Michigan. I'm not asking you; I'm telling you.

They do try to get the change out there. Most requests have been ignored by networks and viewed as whining by people on here.

Don't you have to be in the top 10% of your graduating class in HS?
