Pretty sure they can trade him to whoever after his no trade clause expires in the summer
Posted on 2/22/13 at 4:48 pm to RonBurgundy
I'd take Victor A. from Indiana with zero hesitation.

I thought the hornets couldn't trade Gordon to Phoenix because they were the team that signed his offer sheet.
that was my understanding also. any of the other nba teams except phoenix.

Plumlee will be a better pro than Zeller.
I'm a Duke fan and find this extremely laughable

They can trade him to any team once the one full year after the Hornets/Pelicans matched his offer.
Let him go be the "cornerstone" for Phoenix.
Let those Phoenix trainers magically heal another players body.
Phoenix should have a top-5 pick in the draft, and although its not a very strong draft; I think adding two guys like Porter and Shabazz is well worth it.

To be fair, I'm of the opionion the Pelicans staff has sucked over the years.
but I wouldn't trade him to Phoneix unless they have the #1 pick AND we love the player.
I'd rather trade EG10 to the Bulls for Luol Deng.

Yall can take Boozer too. Just make sure to include Anthony Davis

No one is trading the #1 pick for Eric Gordon, regardless of how shitty this draft is.

In all seriousness, if Gordon could stay healthy, I would LOVE a Gordon for Deng swap.
Gordon gets out of a city he doesn't wanna be, and Deng gives yall a consistent presence defensively, and valuable leadership on the floor.
Would give DRose finally a legit scoring guard to play with.

He is top 10 on every mock draft and rising

don't understand of trading for an expiring, big contract guy.
if the Pelicans trade Gordon, they should do so with the idea in mind to get rid of a big contract like his and to get a player back who is on his rookie contract

salaries still have to match up though.
Gordon is a max player and Deng is near enough to match with 2 less years. If we could steal Jimmy Butler from them by throwing in Aminu or Rivers then there you go.

Phoenix is going to have cap room. They'd have to include Dudley, Brown, Scola, etc.

To justify trading Gordon for Deng, they'd have to extend him. I am not down paying a fringe all-star player $13 million a year.
And I like Jimmy Butler probably more than anyone on this board. But, that's not enough either to justify trading Gordon

Bulls aren't giving up Butler. Management is very high on him.
More likely that the Gar/Pax will throw in Teague and the future Charlotte lottery pick.

The Pelicans would have to wait until 2040 with all the restrictions on that pick to actually acquire it.
ETA: just looked it up. 2016 is when they would probably own the pick. That's just too long of a wait.
I like Teague, though.

Thing is, Charlotte aint going anywhere anytime soon. That still could easily be a top 5 pick 3 years from now.

You undersell Deng here. Dude wouldn't make the West All-Stars, but he's a minutes eater and a good defender with the length to guard Durant. Why would they extend him? Freeing a cap space in order to lock down other players is a great play. Davis will be extended at the earliest date, who knows about the future lotto pick, if Butler and 2 extra years of cap flexibility isn't right around Gordons worth right now, what is?

How an I underselling him? I called him a fringe AS player. You called him not an AS.

So you must agree to some extent that he is overpaid.

Butler is still a "young" bench player. And truth be told, he ain't that young. What is he, 24?
Unless I was assured of extending Deng for $9-$10 and get Teague thrown in, there's better options to be had.

As in value, the AS team doesn't mean much to me ever since Big Cat made one. Deng, imo, is player of high value in the league to aforementioned talents he brings to the table.

There are tons of overpaid players in the NBA, but EG10 is more overpaid than Deng.

to each his own, I'm not sold on Teague bringing more value than Butler would.
