if Nebraska would've somehow pulled off the upset, there definitely would've been a split NC with Oregon.

Yeah, probably. Nebraska basically blew their chance by losing to CU (64-36 and it was not that close) in the last week of the season. Then Tennessee blew it by losing to LSU and Texas blew it by losing to CU also in the B12CG. Florida was also a great team but lost to Tennessee and a meh Auburn. Nebraska was probably the fifth or sixth most-deserving team that year and they made it because both Tennessee and Texas won their divisions and lost in their championship games.

Florida was the second best team that season. Would've been awesome to see a Miami/Florida Rose Bowl.

I was at the Miami-Fla Sugar bowl. 2000 I think. Miami destroyed them.

Edit. It was the 2001 sugar bowl

And could've gotten the split if FSU knocked off OU.

Wasn't it 2000 when Miami thought they deserved in NCG because they beat FSU who got beat at Orange Bowl.

Yep. They lost the first game of the season to UW by 4 I believe. Then won every game after that for the rest of the season. And the next season when they won the NC. And all of the next season until they lost to OSU in the NC game. Amazing run.

Miami's only loss was to Washington early in the season

Washington's only loss was to an ok Oregon team but they gave Oregon State their only loss.

Florida State's only loss was to Miami

OU beat FSU in the championship game

Of course FSU/Miami was OOC then

the 2000-2002 rosters were ridiculous; unimaginable talent. Your RBs are Portis, Gore, McGahee, and Davenport as just an example? That's not even fair.

I remember the Vilma hit when the game was out of reach and just thinking, my God, this team is unreal. I think he was a soph and not a starter even. They were basically punishing them for still trying.

LINK

I'm sure Miami would have won but that fact that a Nebraska team made it over Tennessee, Florida, Oregon, Texas and maybe even CU (2 losses to Fresno week 1 and Texas) was just terrible.

2004 when an undefeated Auburn got hosed for a cheating USC.

Miami did deserve to go over FSU. Their only loss was the first game of the year 3000 miles from home. Even Bobby Bowden admitted that Miami should've gone over FSU.

2004 was proof that preseason rankings matter

No, it wasn't. Auburn could have started #3 or unranked and they would have finished exactly where they did. shite, they could have started #1 and been jumped as USC and OU both appeared to be better than them all season long.

Then Washington deserved to go over them. It was basically a 3-way tie of 1-loss teams. Somebody had to go and the other 2 were getting screwed. That's the breaks. But Miami was no more hosed than Washington.

USC played one ranked team all season and still managed to lose to an unranked, six loss team. No way did USC deserve even to sniff the NC Game.

To be fair, Aaron Rodgers was that 6-loss team's quarterback.

It's kind of similar to this year with OSU/OU/UO if OU would beat OSU--but not really.

UM>FSU, UW>UM, UW<Oregon

Miami's loss could be like OkSt and lost to a great team.

Oklahoma's loss is like Washington's in that it was to the lesser team, but 2000 Oregon > 2011 Texas Tech by a mile

There is no comparable loss like FSU's.
