Does Kentucky come calling?

It would appear so, yes.

I don't think beating a I-AA team makes him a hot candidate. Let's see where he is in 3 months.

Fritz's last 2 teams were 12-2 and 11-3. Sumrall was 9-5 last year. Will he be viewed as ready fpr an SEC job if he wins 10 this year?

While looking at the last 3 years Fritz had Pratt (the best qb in Tulane history numbers wise) and then he poached a lot of players before Sumrall started. Sumrall did whiff at QB with transfer 4/5 star Ty Thompson and Horton was arse. Mensah didn’t get the starting job until late in the season. Plus Mensah checked out the last couple of games.

2024
Tulane got hosed in the Kansas St game.
Lost to Oklahoma
Lost to Memphis
Lost to Army in conference championship game after Mensah checked out
Lost to Florida in the bowl game

I’m not saying Sumrall has been perfect but Fritz 2023 team was bad and they were lucky to have the record that they did.

That being said…….Jon Sumrall is a horrible coach and he couldn’t coach a JV team to a winning record…(did that reverse psychology work?).

I do think Sumrall could do better than going to Arkansas or Kentucky. Especially if Tulane makes the playoffs or is close to making it.

I just hate that this is a real conversation after week 1.

I would rather have to worry about replacing a coach every couple of years than have to relive the Scelfo, Toledo, CJ years.

Do what Boise State did and just keep hiring up and coming coaches or promoting from within. You could always luck out and get a guy like Petersen who stayed at Boise for 7 years or so.

Sumrall? I would think he can stay as long as he would like unless he flames out. I don’t think he feels like he HAS to leave Tulane after this season to get a shot at a bigger program. I think Tulane can keep players coming in with their NIL.

You do realize which Northwestern team Tulane beat right?
