I wanna know why completely unprovable and denied allegations from close to 50 years ago can spur these sort of measures?
There's a statue of limitations legally for a reason.
Anyone can accuse anyone of anything, and if you claim something happened a long time ago, it becomes impossible to both prove or disprove the allegations.
I don't like the idea of people being punished for accusations for supposed things they did decades ago unless for some reason you can actually prove them (which is almost impossible)

I went to Vegas a couple of years ago for a conference. It was during the NFC and AFC championship games. Pete Rose was signing autographs and posing for pictures in the lobby of one of the casino. My buddy went had his picture taken with Pete. He then asked Pete if he was in town for the NFL championship games. Pete said "No, I live here."
It makes sense, should have known.
