very likely, I have no problem with it really, and I am quite capable of having a discussion about US soccer, I could give 2 shits about some sports league across the pond though

i actually respect soccer a lot more after being in argentina for a week...the shite is unreal down there...no one plays basketball, baseball, tennis etc...every kid is kicking a soccer ball & surrounded by a TV when their team is playing...they have 40 professional soccer teams alone in buenos aires...compared to what 12 in the entire US?

depends on what you consider proffessional. i am sure not all of those 40 teams play in the country's highest league. we have developmental professional soccer leagues in the US, New orleans has a team, still nothing like you would find there, but we have way more than 12

or we can talk about soccer on the more sports board and y'all can oh I don't know, not care, just don't respond or make dumb arse threads

and redneck, you have no room to talk about a boring sport, I see you support nascar, noting can be more boring to watch than 50 rednecks driving, OH LOOK LEFT TURN EXCITING!

I expect your next post to contain , "hey soccer fig, we have right turns now too". just save us the brain cells

pointless thread, no need to attack us or inquire as to why we want to talk about the weekends match between whoever, why are there 5000 threads about taz mitch's performance last night, because it is what they are passionate about, this is what we are passionate about so guess what, we talk about it

yes they will suck in 2010, and no cause well talk about why they suck and what needs to be done and then move on to the European leagues, which on average are alot more exciting than MLS games IMO they almost always are, and their rivalries make Yankees/redsox duke/nc look like school ground rivals

I'm talking in terms of the general public. If the U.S. gets as much hype for 2010 as they did for 2006..

I was too, I know there will always be hardcore fans, but I was wondering if the trend I am seeing here is nationwide, and if so, will it last

it is slowly progressing forward year to year but if the usmnt does do as poorly as they did in 06 then it'll be harder to win fans

Americans like success and tend not to support teams that aren't as successful and dominate...not including lions fans

is it indicitive of the sport gaining more popularity in the US as a whole?

Perhaps. Soccer is the most popular youth sport, the MLS has had rising attendance and will be profitable for all teams this next year. They will expand to 16 teams soon. MLS is a big reason for our success lately.

is the MSB a good enough cross section of sports fans to make that assumption?

Probably not.

Did it go away after we bombed in the 06 cup? Did it go away after we bombed in the 98 cup?
One, I don't think we will bomb. It's outside of Europe. Our team is good. We have some weak spots, but our future in the midfield and up top is very bright. They need experience in a bad way, but the average age of our team last night was 25, and we pretty much dominated the Mexicans from start to finish. If we bomb, I think the U.S. goes after a new coach, a big name, that might catapult U.S. soccer to the next level. So even if we bomb, it might be a good thing.

It really depends on what group we are in. If we have to play Italy, the Czechs and Ghana again like we did in 06, we might have trouble.

There are more U.S. players playing in Europe than ever before. Soccer is the most popular youth sport in both Canada and the United States. With the internet it is easier to follow soccer outside of the U.S. I watch whenever I can. I expect the soccer threads to continue, considering the MLS season is starting soon, the Champions League reaching its knock out stages, and with the various league titles up for grabs and relegation battles.

There is really nothing that is hard to understand about that.

06 dude, 3 years this summer, it's every four

qualifing starts more than a year before, have to go from like 120 nations to 32, without severly interrupting professional leagues

if we can actually get the right players on the field instead of some shitheads we have now, this team definitely can compete
